Ford Everest XLS

Highlights

• 296 hp from a 2.3L EcoBoost engine
• 3,500 kg braked towing capacity
• 80-litre fuel tank standard

Summary

This 2024 Ford Everest XLS presents a compelling case for GCC buyers looking for a modern seven-seater that bridges the gap between urban comfort and rugged utility. The mileage is slightly above the regional average for a one-year-old vehicle, but for a ladder-frame SUV built for the long haul, this often indicates a life spent on smooth, cross-emirate highways rather than idling in city traffic. Finished in Grey, the exterior is a highly strategic choice for the Middle East as it masks desert dust effectively while maintaining excellent resale appeal alongside white and silver. As a GCC-spec model, it features a cooling system and drivetrain specifically tuned for extreme summer heat, which is the most critical factor for long-term mechanical reliability in this market. This Everest offers a more advanced turbocharged powertrain than many of its naturally aspirated rivals, providing the torque necessary for both confident desert excursions and effortless highway overtaking.

This Car vs Other 2024 Everests

While its mileage is marginally higher than the typical 20,000–25,000 km annual GCC average, it represents a vehicle that has passed its initial break-in period and is mechanically ready for the region's high-speed road network. The Grey paintwork is a sought-after shade in the UAE and Saudi markets, offering a professional look that holds its value better than more vibrant or niche colors.

XLS vs Lower Trims

The XLS trim provides a significant step up in daily usability, featuring 18-inch alloy wheels and an 8-inch digital instrument cluster that replaces the more basic displays found in entry-level variants. It also includes the critical off-road package with underbody shielding and a rear locking differential, equipment that is often optional or unavailable on base trims but essential for GCC desert weekenders.

Everest vs Segment Rivals

The Everest leads its primary rivals, the Toyota Fortuner and Mitsubishi Montero Sport, in sheer engine output with its 296 hp EcoBoost engine delivering 420 Nm of torque. Its 80-litre fuel tank is specifically advantageous for long-distance GCC journeys, such as the drive from Dubai to Salalah or Riyadh to Jeddah, providing a longer cruising range than several key competitors.

Running Costs & Resale

Real-world fuel economy for the 2.3L EcoBoost engine typically averages between 11 L/100km and 13 L/100km in GCC conditions, depending on the mix of city traffic and highway cruising. Ford's authorized service network, led by Al Tayer and Premier Motors in the UAE, offers widespread coverage and standardized 10,000 km service intervals. While it may not match the near-mythical resale percentages of a Toyota, the Everest XLS retains strong value in the GCC due to its shared platform with the Ranger and its growing reputation for modern cabin tech.

Performance & Capability

The 2.3L EcoBoost engine delivers a robust 296 hp, providing a 0–100 km/h time of approximately 9.5 seconds, which is brisk for a seven-seat body-on-frame SUV. Its All-Wheel Drive system is complemented by a 10-speed automatic transmission and selectable drive modes, making it highly capable for sand dune driving. With a massive 3,500 kg braked towing capacity, it is one of the most capable vehicles in its class for hauling boats or trailers across the region.

Comfort & Cabin

The seven-seat layout is designed with GCC families in mind, featuring dedicated rear cooling vents that are essential for maintaining comfort during the peak summer months. The cabin is centered around a large vertical touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, ensuring modern connectivity for long road trips. Acoustic insulation is a hallmark of this generation, providing a quiet environment even at 120 km/h on the highway.

Safety

This Everest XLS comes standard with a comprehensive safety suite, including a rear-view camera and parking sensors that are vital for navigating tight urban parking in the Emirates. Standard active safety includes electronic stability control and traction control, both of which are calibrated for the variable grip levels found on sand-blown desert highways. The vehicle is also equipped with six airbags, providing robust passive protection for all three rows.

The bottom line

This 2024 Everest XLS is the ideal choice for a GCC resident who needs a tough, family-ready SUV with better tech and more power than the traditional Japanese rivals. It represents a smart buy for those who want a nearly-new vehicle that has already navigated the steepest part of the depreciation curve.
