Summary

This 2024 Kia Sorento EX TOP represents a strategically timed buy, entering the market at exactly two years old—the point where the sharpest initial depreciation has already occurred. With 52,000 km, its mileage reflects a typical GCC highway-commute profile, ensuring the mechanical components have been regularly exercised without the wear of heavy city stop-start traffic. The EX TOP trim is highly prized in the UAE for providing the full suite of modern tech and cooling features that maintain strong resale desirability. Grey remains a neutral, heat-reflective choice that holds its value better than bolder colors in the local secondary market. For a buyer seeking a modern, tech-forward SUV with a massive cargo footprint, this regional-spec crossover is an ideal balance of current-gen styling and proven reliability.

This Car vs Other 2024 Sorentos

At 52,000 km, this vehicle aligns with the higher end of average annual usage for the GCC, which typically ranges between 20,000 and 25,000 km per year due to long-distance inter-emirate driving. This consistent use is often preferable in the local climate, as it prevents the rubber seals and battery issues associated with vehicles left idle in high heat. The Grey exterior is a high-demand, practical choice for the region, offering superior heat management and easier maintenance than darker shades.

EX TOP vs Lower Trims

The EX TOP trim significantly elevates the ownership experience over the base LX and S trims by adding the essential 360° camera system and a smart power liftgate, which are major conveniences in tight UAE mall parking. Buyers also benefit from upgraded 20-inch alloy wheels and an enhanced interior featuring a larger 12.3-inch touchscreen with integrated navigation. Unlike lower trims, the EX TOP includes advanced Highway Driving Assist, providing a much more relaxed experience during long desert highway hauls.

Sorento vs Segment Rivals

The Sorento stands out against rivals like the Toyota RAV4 and Nissan X-Trail by offering a vastly superior 821 liters of boot space in this 5-seat configuration, making it the class leader for family cargo capacity. While competitors often prioritize off-road hardware, the Sorento leads in cabin technology and digital interface quality for the same price point. Its 2.5L engine is specifically tuned for the efficiency required by urban commuters in Dubai and Riyadh who don't need the fuel overhead of a larger V6.

Running Costs & Resale

Running costs are kept low thanks to the 2.5L 4-cylinder engine, which averages approximately 9.0 L/100km in mixed GCC driving conditions. Kia’s authorized service network is one of the most extensive across the UAE, Saudi Arabia, and Oman, ensuring parts are affordable and readily available even in smaller cities. As a GCC-spec model, it retains value far better than imported American or European counterparts, typically depreciating at a stable 10-12% annually after the second year. The five-year regional warranty support further bolsters its long-term resale potential.

Performance & Capability

The 194 hp output is delivered smoothly through an 8-speed automatic transmission, providing reliable power for merging onto fast-moving highways like Sheikh Zayed Road. With a ground clearance of approximately 180 mm, it easily manages sand-drifted roads and gravel tracks leading to weekend farm sites. Multiple selectable drive modes allow the driver to calibrate throttle response for fuel-saving city commutes or more responsive overtaking at highway speeds. This FWD configuration is optimized for road stability and lower maintenance costs compared to heavier AWD systems.

Comfort & Cabin

The 5-seat layout provides expansive legroom for both rows, ensuring comfort for adult passengers even on cross-border road trips. The air conditioning system is specifically engineered for GCC summers, featuring high-output compressors and dedicated rear cooling vents to maintain a steady cabin temperature during 45°C peaks. Acoustic windshield glass and solar control windows come standard on this trim, significantly reducing both wind noise and solar heat gain. The flat-folding rear seats further enhance versatility, transforming the cabin into a cavernous load-carrier when needed.

Safety

Safety is a primary focus for this trim, which comes equipped with a comprehensive ADAS suite including Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist and Lane Keeping Assist. The 360° camera system is a standout feature, providing a bird's-eye view that is invaluable for navigating obstacles. Standard safety tech also includes Blind-Spot Collision-Avoidance, which is critical for safety on the UAE's multi-lane highway systems where high-speed lane changes are frequent. The vehicle is further protected by a full array of front, side, and curtain airbags, ensuring 5-star levels of occupant protection.

The bottom line

Perfect for the tech-conscious family or professional who values cargo space and modern aesthetics, this GCC-spec Sorento offers a like-new experience at a significant second-year value discount.
