Summary

This 2024 Kia Sorento EX offers a balanced combination of modern styling and family utility, standing as a top choice for those moving up from compact crossovers. With just over 50,000 km, this vehicle is well within the typical usage range for a late-model GCC SUV, ensuring plenty of mechanical life for long-distance regional travel. The black exterior remains the most sought-after resale color in the UAE market, providing a professional aesthetic that holds value exceptionally well. As a monocoque 7-seater, it leads its segment in cabin tech and urban maneuverability while maintaining the cooling performance necessary for peak summer heat. For the GCC buyer, this represents a near-new ownership experience without the initial depreciation of a showroom purchase.

This Car vs Other 2024 Sorentos

At 52,000 km, this Sorento aligns with the average annual mileage for GCC family vehicles, which typically cover 20,000 to 25,000 km per year due to inter-city highway driving. The black paintwork is a significant resale advantage in the local market, consistently fetching higher prices at trade-in compared to niche colors. This specific unit benefits from being a GCC-spec model, ensuring the radiator and air conditioning systems are factory-tuned for the region's extreme operating temperatures.

EX vs Lower Trims

The EX trim provides a substantial leap in premium features over the base LX, most notably the addition of the 12.3-inch integrated touchscreen and digital instrument cluster. GCC buyers will appreciate the Smart Power Liftgate and upgraded synthetic leather upholstery, which offers better durability against sun exposure than entry-level fabrics. It also includes advanced driver assistance features like Lane Centering and Smart Cruise Control that are often absent on lower-tier configurations.

Sorento vs Segment Rivals

The Sorento differentiates itself from the Toyota Highlander and Honda Pilot by offering a more compact footprint that is easier to park in tight Dubai and Riyadh malls while still maintaining a usable 7-seat layout. Its 2.5L powertrain provides a more fuel-efficient alternative for daily commuting compared to the larger V6 engines found in American-market rivals. Additionally, the Sorento's infotainment interface is widely regarded as more intuitive and responsive than many competitors in the mid-size SUV segment.

Running Costs & Resale

With a combined fuel consumption of approximately 9.0 L/100km, the Sorento is economical for a 7-seater, particularly during long highway runs between Emirates. Service intervals are typically set at 10,000 km across the extensive Kia authorized network, which is one of the most accessible in the GCC, from the UAE to Saudi Arabia. While it depreciates slightly faster than the Toyota Highlander, its lower entry price and strong demand for used 7-seaters in the region ensure excellent value retention over a 3-to-5-year period.

Performance & Capability

The 194 hp 2.5L engine is paired with a smooth 8-speed automatic transmission, delivering a 0-100 km/h time of approximately 9.8 seconds, which is more than adequate for confident highway merging. The Front Wheel Drive configuration prioritizes fuel efficiency and reduced maintenance costs for urban families who don't require heavy off-roading gear. With a 907 kg braked towing capacity, it is capable of hauling light trailers or jet skis for weekend trips to the coast. Multiple drive modes allow the steering and throttle response to be tailored for either efficient city crawls or high-speed cruising.

Comfort & Cabin

The cabin is designed for GCC family logistics, featuring a versatile three-row layout with one-touch sliding second-row seats for easy access to the rear. High-output air conditioning with dedicated rear vents ensures all seven passengers remain comfortable during the summer months. The EX trim adds a power-adjustable driver’s seat and acoustic windshield glass, significantly reducing road noise during long-distance travel. The flat-folding rear seats expand the cargo area to a massive 2,100 litres, making it ideal for large grocery hauls or staycation luggage.

Safety

This Sorento EX is equipped with a comprehensive safety suite, including Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist and Blind-Spot Collision-Avoidance, which are essential for fast-moving UAE highway traffic. Standard Lane Keeping Assist and Driver Attention Warning provide an extra layer of protection during long desert drives. The vehicle also features multiple airbags and ISOFIX child seat anchors, earning it high marks for family protection.

The bottom line

This Sorento EX is the ideal choice for a growing family that needs 7-seat versatility and modern tech without the premium price of a luxury brand. Its GCC specification and popular color choice make it a safe, high-value investment in the current used market.
