Summary

This 2024 MG RX5 presents a highly competitive opportunity for GCC buyers seeking a nearly new SUV with the steep initial depreciation already cleared. As a DEL trim with the preferred GCC specification, it offers a level of cabin technology and exterior styling that punches well above its segment rivals. The black-on-black color combination is a perennial favorite in the UAE and Saudi markets, ensuring strong liquidity when it comes time to trade up. With 169 hp on tap, it balances urban agility with enough power for comfortable inter-emirate highway cruising. For any buyer looking to bridge the gap between a compact crossover and a full-size SUV, this RX5 is currently one of the most logical value-driven choices in the region.

This Car vs Other 2024 RX5s

At 42,500 km, this vehicle's mileage is slightly above the GCC annual average for its first year, reflecting typical highway use between major cities. However, being a 2024 model, it remains firmly within its peak reliability window and maintains the balance of a modern aesthetic with a professional black finish that holds value exceptionally well in the local resale market. It stands out as a high-trim alternative to base-model 2024 listings that may have lower mileage but significantly fewer features.

DEL vs Lower Trims

The DEL trim is a significant step up from the STD and COM variants, most notably adding the high-definition 360-degree parking camera and the 12.3-inch fully digital virtual cluster. GCC buyers will particularly appreciate the inclusion of a panoramic sunroof and larger 19-inch alloy wheels that provide a more commanding road presence. It also upgrades the infotainment to the tablet-style 14.1-inch vertical touchscreen, a feature usually reserved for premium luxury brands.

RX5 vs Segment Rivals

The RX5 competes directly with the Hyundai Tucson and Kia Sportage, leading the segment in digital screen real estate and cabin tech for the price. While rivals often reserve features like a 360-camera and digital cockpit for their highest-priced configurations, the MG delivers them as standard on this trim. Its 1.5L turbocharged engine is specifically designed for high-efficiency commuting, offering better fuel economy figures than the naturally aspirated 2.0L engines found in many entry-level Japanese and Korean competitors.

Running Costs & Resale

With a combined fuel consumption of 6.8 L/100km, the RX5 is one of the most efficient petrol SUVs in its class, perfectly suited for the stop-start traffic of Dubai or Riyadh. MG has established an extensive authorized service network across the UAE, Saudi Arabia, and Kuwait, with standard service intervals of 10,000 km. In the GCC market, MG models typically see a value retention of approximately 70% after three years, making them a more stable investment than many emerging challenger brands.

Performance & Capability

The 1.5L turbocharged engine produces a verified 169 hp and 275 Nm of torque, enabling a 0–100 km/h time of 9.4 seconds and a top speed of 190 km/h. This powertrain is paired with a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission that provides smooth, quick shifts during highway overtaking. While front-wheel drive is optimized for road use, the RX5's ground clearance and upgraded suspension handle gravel paths and speed bumps with ease, making it a versatile companion for weekend family trips.

Comfort & Cabin

Inside, the RX5 features an ergonomic 'sofa-style' armrest and soft-touch materials that provide a refined feel during long desert drives. The dual-zone automatic climate control is robustly engineered for GCC summers, ensuring the cabin stays cool even when temperatures exceed 45°C. Practicality is a core strength, with 430 litres of boot space that expands significantly to 1,639 litres with the rear seats folded flat, accommodating large grocery runs or family luggage.

Safety

Safety is comprehensive on this trim, featuring a 5-star safety rating and a reinforced steel cage body. Standard equipment includes front and side airbags, Electronic Stability Program (ESP), and Hill Descent Control, which is particularly useful on inclined parking ramps or uneven terrain. The 360-degree camera and rear sensors provide essential visibility in tight urban parking spots, a standard luxury on the DEL trim that adds significant peace of mind for daily driving.

The bottom line

For the family buyer or professional who wants 2024 technology and a premium aesthetic without the luxury price tag, this GCC-spec RX5 DEL is a smart, tech-forward choice that is ready for immediate use across the Emirates.
