Summary

This 2023 MG RX5 Luxury represents the top-tier configuration of MG’s redesigned crossover, offering a high-tech alternative to traditional Japanese rivals. With 41,000 km, the mileage is perfectly aligned with the GCC average of 20,000 km per year, indicating consistent and appropriate use. The Grey exterior is a neutral, high-demand choice that maintains strong resale appeal across the UAE and wider region. For buyers seeking a modern family vehicle, this Luxury trim provides a significant jump in cabin technology and material quality. It is a particularly strong buy for those prioritizing a premium digital experience and fuel efficiency in a daily commuter.

This Car vs Other 2023 MG RX5s

With 41,000 km on the clock, this RX5 has been driven right at the expected average for a two-year-old vehicle in the GCC market. The Grey finish is a smart choice for the local climate, showing less dust than darker shades while remaining one of the most liquid colors for future resale. Being the 2023 facelift model, it benefits from the second-generation 'Net Blue' engine which offers 10% more torque than previous years.

Luxury vs Lower Trims

The Luxury trim is a major step up from the Standard and Comfort models, replacing the basic instrument cluster with a 12.3-inch fully digital virtual cockpit. It adds the essential 360-degree camera system for easier urban parking and upgrades the cabin with premium leather upholstery and a panoramic sunroof. You also get the convenience of a power tailgate and 18-inch two-tone alloy wheels that distinguish the top-spec profile.

RX5 vs Segment Rivals

The MG RX5 leads its class in digital real estate, featuring a 14.1-inch vertical touchscreen that dwarfs the displays found in the Kia Sportage or Hyundai Tucson. Its 6.8 L/100km combined fuel economy makes it more efficient than many naturally aspirated competitors, while the 2,708 mm wheelbase ensures rear legroom that rivals larger SUVs. It offers a more tech-forward interior atmosphere than the Mazda CX-5 at a more accessible price point.

Running Costs & Resale

Real-world fuel efficiency is excellent at 6.8 L/100km, which is ideal for the long-distance highway commutes common between Dubai and Abu Dhabi. MG has established one of the fastest-growing service networks in the GCC, with authorized centers widely available across all major emirates and neighboring countries. The RX5 typically sees a value retention rate of approximately 70% after three years, performing strongly for a Chinese-branded SUV in the regional market.

Performance & Capability

The 1.5-liter turbocharged engine delivers a punchy 169 hp and 275 Nm of torque, allowing for confident highway overtaking and a 0-100 km/h time of approximately 9.4 seconds. The 7-speed Dual Clutch Transmission is tuned for smooth shifts during city stop-start traffic, while the front-wheel-drive setup ensures predictable handling. With a 55-liter fuel tank, the RX5 offers a significant driving range, making it a reliable companion for cross-border road trips.

Comfort & Cabin

The interior is designed for the GCC summer, featuring standard rear AC vents and a high-performance cooling system that reaches the back row quickly. The Luxury trim’s leather seats and soft-touch materials provide a premium feel, while the double-layer laminated soundproof windscreen keeps the cabin quiet at highway speeds. Practicality is a highlight with 430 liters of boot space that expands significantly with the fold-flat rear seats.

Safety

The Luxury trim comes equipped with a comprehensive safety suite, including six airbags and a 360-degree camera system for maximum visibility. The standard Electronic Stability Program (ESP) includes eight specific functions such as Active Rollover Protection and Cornering Brake Control, which are vital for maintaining stability on sandy or wind-swept highway surfaces. It also features a Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) and ISOFIX points for secure family travel.

The bottom line

For the GCC buyer who wants a tech-heavy, fuel-efficient SUV that still looks and feels new, this 2023 Luxury trim offers the best balance of features and regional suitability available in the mid-size segment.
