Summary

This 2024 MG RX5 Luxury represents a modern approach to the compact SUV segment, offering a premium tech suite that rivals more expensive competitors. The Grey exterior is a highly practical choice for the GCC, maintaining its appearance well against desert dust while remaining a staple for resale value. As the top-tier Luxury trim, this vehicle includes significant upgrades like a panoramic sunroof and a vertically oriented 14.1-inch display that defines the cabin experience. With its turbocharged 1.5L engine, it balances the power needed for confident highway overtaking with the efficiency required for daily city commuting. This specific listing is a standout for buyers prioritizing recent model-year tech and safety features in a versatile family-sized package.

This Car vs Other 2024 MG RX5s

With 96,659 km on the odometer, this vehicle has been actively utilized, likely for the long-distance highway commutes common between major GCC hubs. While higher than the regional average for a one-year-old car, this mileage reflects the RX5's mechanical readiness for sustained high-speed travel. The Grey finish is a strategic advantage, consistently ranking among the top three most requested colors in the UAE used market for its heat-reflecting properties and ease of maintenance.

LUXURY vs Lower Trims

The Luxury trim transforms the RX5 experience by adding a massive 14.1-inch portrait-style infotainment screen and a 12.3-inch digital driver cluster, replacing the smaller units found in the Standard and Comfort trims. It also introduces a power-operated tailgate and a panoramic sunroof, features that are highly sought after by GCC families. Furthermore, the Luxury trim provides upgraded 19-inch alloy wheels and an enhanced airbag suite for superior safety compared to the base models.

MG RX5 vs Segment Rivals

When compared to the Kia Sportage or Hyundai Tucson, the MG RX5 leads on interior screen real estate and integrated technology for the price point. Its 55-litre fuel tank and 6.8 L/100km efficiency make it a formidable highway cruiser, often requiring fewer fuel stops during cross-emirate trips. Additionally, the RX5 offers a generous 1,639 litres of maximum cargo space with the rear seats folded, providing more utility than many similarly priced compact crossovers.

Running Costs & Resale

The 1.5L turbocharged engine is optimized for efficiency, achieving approximately 14.7 km/L under ideal conditions, though GCC stop-start traffic will see figures closer to 8.5 L/100km. MG's service network has expanded rapidly across the UAE, Saudi Arabia, and Oman, ensuring parts availability and competitive maintenance costs at authorized centers. While Chinese-backed marques typically see 12-15% annual depreciation, the RX5's strong feature-to-price ratio helps it retain value better than many smaller segment alternatives.

Performance & Capability

The 1.5L turbocharged four-cylinder engine delivers a punchy 171 hp and 275 Nm of torque, enabling a 0-100 km/h sprint in 9.4 seconds. This torque is particularly useful for merging onto fast-moving UAE motorways, where the 7-speed Dual Clutch Transmission (DCT) provides smooth gear changes. While FWD-biased, its 196 mm ground clearance and specialized drive modes allow it to handle gravel tracks and light wadi paths comfortably during weekend outings.

Comfort & Cabin

Inside, the Luxury trim features high-quality finishes and dual-zone automatic climate control designed to handle extreme 45°C+ summer temperatures. Rear passengers benefit from dedicated air conditioning vents and ample legroom, while the panoramic sunroof creates an airy, spacious feel throughout the cabin. Acoustic insulation has been improved in this generation, noticeably reducing road noise during long-distance drives across the desert highways.

Safety

Safety is comprehensive in the Luxury trim, featuring 6 airbags and a 360-degree parking camera that makes maneuvering in tight city spaces effortless. Standard active systems include Electronic Stability Control (ESC), Hill Descent Control, and a Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS), which is vital for safe high-temperature highway driving. The body is constructed with a high-strength steel cage, providing a robust safety foundation that meets modern international standards.

The bottom line

For the tech-forward buyer who needs a late-model SUV without the premium price tag of a European or Japanese rival, this 2024 MG RX5 Luxury is an excellent choice. It offers the best possible equipment level for this model year, making it a highly practical and modern daily driver for the GCC.
