Summary

This 2024 Nissan Patrol Super Safari HT is a collector-grade example of a GCC cultural icon, offering the final-year mechanical purity of the legendary Y61 platform. Finished in Gold, a highly desirable shade for heat reflection and long-term resale, this short-wheelbase Hard Top (HT) variant provides superior agility in the dunes compared to the five-door wagon. The Super Safari trim represents the highest factory specification, blending heavy-duty off-road hardware with essential modern comforts like a refrigerator and leather interior. For the serious GCC enthusiast, this model is the definitive choice for desert expeditions where reliability and mechanical simplicity are non-negotiable. It remains one of the few vehicles that effectively acts as both a rugged workhorse and a blue-chip automotive investment.

This Car vs Other 2024 Patrols

As a 2024 model, this vehicle represents the very last production run of the Y61 generation, making it a highly sought-after 'final edition' buy. While most 2024 Patrols in the market are the newer Y62 family SUVs, this Super Safari is built for enthusiasts who prioritize mechanical durability and sand-climbing ability over highway soft-roading. The Gold exterior is a premium choice that is particularly resilient against the sun and sand, consistently commanding a faster sale in the GCC used market.

SUPER SAFARI HT vs Lower Trims

The Super Safari trim is the flagship of the Safari range, adding premium leather upholstery, a power sunroof, and an integrated navigation system with Apple CarPlay that are absent on the base GL. Crucially, the Super Safari comes standard with a rear differential lock and a built-in electric winch, essential for self-recovery in deep sand. It also features the iconic two-tone body paint and 17-inch black machine-cut alloy wheels, distinguishing it from the mid-range Safari trim.

Patrol vs Segment Rivals

The Patrol Super Safari's primary rival is the Toyota Land Cruiser 70-Series, but the Nissan offers a significantly more comfortable cabin with standard climate control and a factory refrigerator that the 70-Series lacks. While the Land Cruiser is a pure utility vehicle, the Super Safari manages a better balance for daily use in city traffic without sacrificing its solid-axle durability. The short-wheelbase HT version offers a tighter turning circle and better break-over angles than larger American rivals like the Chevrolet Tahoe.

Running Costs & Resale

The 4.8L VTC engine is designed for high-torque performance, with real-world fuel consumption averaging approximately 17.2 L/100km, which can rise during intensive desert driving. Maintenance is straightforward and cost-effective due to the massive availability of parts and expert technicians at authorized service centers across the UAE, Saudi Arabia, and Oman. The Patrol Safari holds one of the highest value retention rates in the GCC, typically losing only 8-10% annually, as demand for this specific generation remains high despite newer models entering the market.

Performance & Capability

The heart of this vehicle is the 4.8L inline-six engine producing 280 hp and 451 Nm of torque, known for its linear power delivery and legendary heat resistance during long summer climbs. It is equipped with a dual-tank system for extended range during cross-border highway drives and deep-desert explorations. The 4WD system features a manual low-range transfer case, providing a mechanical connection to the terrain that modern electronic systems cannot replicate for pure off-road confidence.

Comfort & Cabin

The cabin is designed for five passengers, featuring Tan or Red premium leather and wood-grain accents that elevate the vintage utilitarian design. GCC-specific comfort is prioritized with a powerful air conditioning system and a cooled center console box that keeps beverages chilled even in 50°C summer heat. The Super Safari also includes a digital display with smartphone integration, bridging the gap between its classic heritage and modern convenience.

Safety

Standard safety equipment includes dual front airbags, Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), and Vehicle Dynamic Control (VDC) to assist with stability on loose gravel and sand. It also features Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD) and a rearview camera with parking sensors to aid visibility in tight city spaces. The body-on-frame construction provides a robust safety cell, making it a trusted choice for long-distance travel on fast-moving GCC highways.

The bottom line

For the buyer who wants the most capable desert-ready SUV in its final and most refined production year, this Super Safari HT is an unbeatable opportunity to own a piece of Middle Eastern automotive history.
