Toyota Gr86 STANDARD

Highlights

• 0–100 km/h in 6.6 seconds
• 233 hp from a 2.4-litre flat-four
• Top speed of 215 km/h

Summary

This 2-year-old Toyota GR86 is an exceptionally low-mileage example, having covered just 4,000 km per year against the typical GCC average of 25,000 km. As a 2024 model, it represents the latest evolution of Toyota's purist sports car, featuring the more powerful 2.4L engine that fixed the previous generation's torque dip. The Grey exterior is a versatile and stable choice for the local resale market. While it offers a raw and connected driving experience that rivals like the Mazda MX-5 or BMW 2 Series struggle to match at this price point, the American spec should be noted for its slightly different equipment profile compared to local dealer versions. This is a rare opportunity to own a nearly-new driver's car that has spent very little time on the road.

This Car vs Other 2024 GR86s

With only 8,000 km on the odometer, this vehicle has covered significantly less distance than the 40,000 to 50,000 km typically expected for a 2-year-old car in the GCC. This extremely low usage means the mechanical components and interior surfaces remain in a condition very close to when it left the showroom. The Grey paint is a highly desirable shade in the UAE, providing better heat reflection than black while maintaining a premium, modern look that supports strong resale value.

STANDARD vs Lower Trims

The Standard trim provides the essential GR experience with high-quality basics like the 8-inch touchscreen and 7-inch digital gauge cluster. While it lacks the 18-inch wheels and heated Ultrasuede seats found on the Premium trim, the Standard grade is often preferred by enthusiasts in the GCC who plan to customize their wheels or those who find fabric seats more comfortable in the intense summer heat. It still includes the critical Torsen limited-slip differential as standard, ensuring no compromise on cornering performance.

GR86 vs Segment Rivals

The GR86 stands apart from rivals like the Mazda MX-5 by offering a usable 2+2 seating configuration and a larger 237-litre boot, making it far more practical for daily use between the Emirates. Compared to the turbocharged 4-cylinder rivals in the compact executive segment, its naturally aspirated flat-four engine offers a more immediate throttle response and a lower center of gravity. This balance makes it one of the most rewarding chassis available for weekend drives through the Jabal Hafeet or Jebel Jais mountain passes.

Running Costs & Resale

Fuel economy is rated at approximately 8.8 L/100km combined, though GCC city traffic may see this rise toward 11.0 L/100km. Toyota's extensive service network across the UAE, Saudi Arabia, and Oman ensures that maintenance is straightforward, though as an American spec vehicle, buyers should confirm parts compatibility for specific trim-based electronics at local service centers. While GCC spec Toyotas generally retain about 85% of their value after three years, American spec units typically trade at a slight discount, offering a lower entry point for the same performance.

Performance & Capability

The 2.4L 'Boxer' engine produces a healthy 233 hp, allowing for a 0–100 km/h sprint of 6.6 seconds in this automatic version. The 6-speed automatic transmission is tuned for performance with steering-mounted paddle shifters that provide fast, crisp shifts for highway overtaking or spirited driving. Its rear-wheel-drive layout and 53/47 weight distribution make it incredibly agile, designed specifically for balance rather than just straight-line speed.

Comfort & Cabin

The cabin is focused on the driver, featuring bolstered sport seats that keep you secure during cornering. Dual-zone automatic climate control is standard, a vital feature for maintaining comfort during the GCC summer. For an American spec car, the fabric seating is often seen as a benefit in this region as it stays cooler than leather when parked in the sun. The 8-inch infotainment system fully supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto for seamless navigation across the UAE's highway network.

Safety

Safety is comprehensive with a suite of advanced driver assistance systems including Pre-Collision Braking, Lane Departure Warning, and Adaptive Cruise Control. These systems are particularly beneficial for the long, multi-lane highway stretches between Dubai and Abu Dhabi. The car also features seven airbags and a reinforced frame, providing high levels of protection that match its modern engineering.

The bottom line

This is the perfect choice for a buyer looking for a pure, low-mileage sports car that is still practically new. If you value mechanical simplicity and a driver-focused experience over luxury gadgets, this 8,000 km GR86 is the best-value entry into the world of modern performance coupes.
