Summary

This 2017 Ford Mustang California Special offers a rare opportunity to own a uniquely styled V8 muscle car with full GCC specifications. As a specialized styling package built on the GT Premium trim, it provides a distinctive presence on the road that stands out from standard models while maintaining high resale desirability in the UAE market. The Lightning Blue exterior is a highly sought-after shade that holds its value well among local enthusiasts. With its potent powertrain and retro-inspired aesthetics, this vehicle is perfectly suited for those who appreciate American performance tuned for the heat and highway demands of the Middle East. It remains a reliable and thrilling daily driver that balances iconic heritage with modern technology.

This Car vs Other 2017 Mustangs

With 176,000 km, this Mustang reflects typical GCC highway usage where long-distance commutes between emirates are common. While the mileage is higher than global averages, GCC-spec Mustangs are built to handle these conditions, and this specific California Special trim offers a significant exclusivity advantage over high-mileage base V6 or EcoBoost models. The blue exterior is a strong resale color in the regional market, performing better than non-traditional custom wraps.

CALIFORNIA SPECIAL vs Lower Trims

The California Special package, available only on the GT Premium, adds exclusive 19-inch machined-aluminum wheels with black pockets and a unique black-out grille with the tri-bar pony logo. Inside, you receive Miko suede seat inserts with red contrast stitching and a unique aluminum dashboard plaque that is not available on standard GT or EcoBoost trims. It also includes the premium SYNC 3 infotainment system and ventilated seats, which are essential for comfort during the intense GCC summer months.

Mustang vs Segment Rivals

Compared to the Dodge Challenger R/T and Chevrolet Camaro SS, the Mustang is often preferred in the GCC for its broader authorized service network and easier parts availability. While the Challenger offers more rear legroom, the Mustang’s 5.0L Coyote engine is widely regarded for its reliability in high-temperature environments. It also features a more modern interior layout and intuitive tech interface than its same-year domestic rivals.

Running Costs & Resale

The 5.0L V8 typically averages around 12–14 L/100km in mixed GCC driving, reflecting a balance of city traffic and high-speed highway cruising. As a GCC-spec vehicle, it benefits from a robust authorized service network across the UAE, Saudi Arabia, and Oman, ensuring maintenance is straightforward. The California Special trim historically experiences slower depreciation than base models due to its limited-edition appeal and the high demand for V8 engines in the regional used market.

Performance & Capability

The heart of this Mustang is the naturally aspirated 5.0L V8 producing a verified 435 horsepower (often rounded to 400+ in local listings), capable of launching the car to 100 km/h in approximately 4.8 seconds. The automatic transmission is tuned for smooth highway cruising at 140 km/h while offering selectable drive modes—including Sport+ and Track—to sharpen throttle response for weekend drives. Its rear-wheel-drive configuration and limited-slip differential provide the classic muscle car feel expected by enthusiasts.

Comfort & Cabin

Inside, the cabin is designed for long-distance comfort with dual-zone automatic climate control and powerful AC systems tailored for the region. The leather-trimmed seats with suede inserts provide excellent grip and are both heated and ventilated to combat external temperatures. The 2+2 seating layout is ideal for front-passenger room, and the 9-speaker premium audio system ensures high-quality sound even when cruising with the windows down.

Safety

This trim comes equipped with a comprehensive safety suite including a rearview camera, rear parking sensors, and Blind Spot Information System (BLIS) with Cross-Traffic Alert, which is highly beneficial for navigating fast-moving multi-lane highways in the UAE. Standard stability control and a suite of eight airbags, including knee airbags for the driver and front passenger, contributed to its high safety ratings during its production year.

The bottom line

This GCC-spec California Special is the perfect choice for an enthusiast looking for a reliable, uniquely styled V8 muscle car that is fully prepared for the local climate and driving conditions.
