Summary

This 2024 XC60 Ultimate Dark is a standout choice in the GCC market, offering a sophisticated alternative to the usual German luxury crossovers. With approximately 38,355 km, the mileage is slightly higher than the local annual average but well-distributed for a late-model Volvo built for durability. The Onyx Black exterior is a perennially strong resale color in the UAE and Saudi Arabia, holding its value better than more niche shades. As the highest standard trim, it bridges the gap between family practicality and executive refinement perfectly. For a GCC buyer, the standard inclusion of premium cabin cooling and advanced safety tech makes this a highly resilient daily driver for both city and cross-border travel.

This Car vs Other 2024 XC60s

While many 2024 models in the UAE are seen with very low delivery mileage, this car’s 38,355 km indicates it has been actively used for the long-distance highway commutes it was designed for. The Ultimate Dark trim is rarer in the used market than the entry-level Core or Plus variants, giving it a distinct edge in prestige and feature depth. The black-on-black aesthetic is particularly sought after in the GCC, ensuring it remains a liquid asset at resale.

ULTIMATE DARK vs Lower Trims

Stepping up to the Ultimate Dark trim adds essential features that GCC buyers value, such as a crystal gear shifter and a leather-stitched dashboard that elevates the interior beyond the Plus trim's standard plastics. It replaces the 10-speaker system with a 600-watt Harman Kardon setup and includes a Head-Up Display, which is vital for maintaining focus on fast-moving multi-lane highways. Additionally, the Ultimate Dark features laminated side glass, significantly reducing exterior heat soak and road noise compared to the base Core trim.

XC60 vs Segment Rivals

The XC60 leads its primary rivals like the BMW X3 and Audi Q5 in terms of seat comfort and standard safety hardware, often including Pilot Assist features that others offer as expensive add-ons. Its 71-litre fuel tank provides a generous cruising range for trips between Dubai and Muscat, often outlasting the smaller tanks found in more sports-focused rivals. The Volvo also provides a more relaxed, Scandinavian-inspired cabin environment that feels significantly less cluttered than the Mercedes-Benz GLC.

Running Costs & Resale

The B5 mild-hybrid powertrain delivers a combined fuel consumption of approximately 7.6 L/100km, which is highly efficient for GCC stop-start traffic and highway cruising. Service intervals for Volvo in the UAE are typically every 15,000 km, with a well-established authorized service network ensuring parts availability across major cities. While European luxury SUVs generally depreciate faster than Japanese alternatives, the Ultimate Dark trim’s high equipment level helps it maintain a higher percentage of its value at the three-year mark compared to base models.

Performance & Capability

Equipped with All-Wheel Drive, the B5 engine produces 247 hp, allowing for a confident 0–100 km/h sprint of 6.9 seconds and an electronically limited top speed of 180 km/h. The 48V mild-hybrid system supports smooth restarts in heavy city traffic, while the AWD system provides reliable stability on the sand-swept roads and gravel tracks found during weekend desert escapes. Its 2,400 kg braked towing capacity is among the best in the compact luxury SUV segment, making it capable of hauling jet skis or small trailers with ease.

Comfort & Cabin

Inside, the five-seat layout offers class-leading ergonomics with multi-way power-adjustable front seats that provide exceptional support on long desert drives. The four-zone climate control system and dedicated rear cooling vents are purpose-built for the extreme GCC summer heat, ensuring all passengers stay comfortable regardless of outside temperatures. The Google-integrated infotainment system provides seamless navigation and hands-free control, which is a major convenience during daily Dubai or Riyadh commutes.

Safety

Volvo’s reputation for safety is fully realized here with a comprehensive ADAS suite that includes Blind Spot Information (BLIS) with steer assist, which is invaluable for the UAE's fast-moving highway traffic. It also features Cross Traffic Alert with auto-brake and the City Safety system, which can detect and help avoid collisions with other vehicles, pedestrians, and large animals. The inclusion of a 360° camera and front/rear parking sensors makes navigating tight parking structures in major metropolitan malls effortless.

The bottom line

This XC60 Ultimate Dark is the ideal choice for a buyer who wants a fully-specced, safe, and sophisticated family SUV that is ready for the long-distance demands of the GCC. It offers a premium European ownership experience with the added benefit of a strong resale color and the most desirable trim package currently available.
