Summary

This one-year-old BYD Leopard 5 represents a unique opportunity to own a high-performance PHEV that is gaining serious traction across the Emirates. With 35,000 km, its mileage reflects a typical year of active GCC commuting, and the black exterior remains the safest choice for maintaining strong resale value in the local market. As a Standard trim, it offers a sophisticated balance of rugged body-on-frame durability and cutting-edge hybrid efficiency that rivals traditional V8 off-roaders. For a UAE buyer, the ability to commute on pure electric power while having the range for cross-border trips makes this a highly versatile choice for both city traffic and weekend expeditions.

This Car vs Other 2025 Leopard 5s

At 35,000 km, this vehicle's usage is consistent with the higher-than-average annual mileage typically seen in the GCC due to frequent highway travel between cities. Being a first-year model, it offers a nearly new mechanical state with the added benefit of a black exterior, which historically holds its value better than lighter or niche colors in the UAE and Saudi markets.

STANDARD vs Lower Trims

The Standard trim serves as the robust entry into the Leopard 5 lineup, featuring the core DMO hybrid platform and essential off-road hardware like the rear differential lock. Unlike base models in other regions, the GCC-spec Standard trim frequently includes a premium cabin with the 15.6-inch central display and ventilated front seats, which are critical for maintaining comfort during the intense local summers.

Leopard 5 vs Segment Rivals

The Leopard 5 competes directly with the Tank 500 and Toyota Land Cruiser Prado, standing out with its significantly faster 4.8-second acceleration and superior fuel economy in city traffic thanks to its PHEV powertrain. Its dual-motor setup provides instantaneous electric torque that traditional petrol rivals cannot match, while the 83-litre fuel tank ensures massive total range for long desert highway drives.

Running Costs & Resale

Real-world fuel consumption for this PHEV is exceptionally low in stop-start city traffic, often operating entirely on its 125 km electric range (CLTC). Service intervals are generally set at 7,500 km or 12 months, and BYD's rapidly expanding authorized service network in the UAE and Saudi Arabia provides reliable long-term support. As a GCC-spec model, it maintains a higher market trust and value retention compared to non-regional imports.

Performance & Capability

Delivering a combined 680 hp and 760 Nm of torque, this SUV offers sports-car-level performance in a rugged, body-on-frame package. The 220 mm ground clearance and multiple terrain modes—including specific settings for Sand and Mud—make it highly capable for weekend dune bashing in Liwa or exploring mountain trails. Its hybrid system manages power distribution electronically, ensuring maximum traction on loose gravel and soft sand surfaces common in the region.

Comfort & Cabin

The five-seat cabin is designed to be a quiet sanctuary from the heat, equipped with a powerful air conditioning system and ventilated front seats as standard. The digital-first dashboard features a massive 2.5K central touchscreen and a 12.3-inch digital cockpit, providing a high-tech atmosphere for long-distance family travel. Rear passengers benefit from dedicated cooling vents and a flat floor, enhancing comfort during cross-emirate trips.

Safety

Standard safety features on this trim include a 360-degree panoramic camera system, which is invaluable for navigating tight parking spaces and checking terrain obstacles off-road. The suite also includes adaptive cruise control and blind-spot monitoring, providing essential assistance during fast-paced highway driving on the E11. Multiple airbags and a high-strength body-on-frame construction ensure a high level of occupant protection for family use.

The bottom line

For the tech-forward GCC buyer who wants a rugged SUV that handles the daily Dubai commute on electric power but dominates off-road, this well-maintained Leopard 5 is a smart, high-value alternative to traditional gas-guzzlers.
