Summary

This 2026 Leopard 5 Ultra represents the cutting edge of plug-in hybrid technology, combining a potent 680 hp output with serious off-road hardware. As the flagship Ultra trim, it features the advanced DiSus-P hydraulic body control system, making it just as capable in the Liwa dunes as it is smooth on the E11. The grey exterior is a smart choice for the UAE, effectively hiding desert dust while maintaining a modern, high-tech aesthetic. For a buyer looking to bridge the gap between a luxury city SUV and a hardcore desert explorer, this PHEV offers an unmatched blend of performance and range. Its ability to run on pure electric power for city commutes while offering a massive combined range for cross-border trips makes it a uniquely versatile asset in the GCC.

This Car vs Other 2026 Leopard 5s

With near-zero mileage, this 2026 model sits at the very beginning of its lifecycle, offering a significant advantage over the higher-mileage 2024 or 2025 units currently entering the used market. In the GCC, where annual highway use often exceeds 25,000 km, starting with a fresh vehicle ensures maximum longevity for the advanced LFP Blade Battery. The grey finish is one of the most resilient colors for local resale, holding its value better than niche shades in the secondary market.

ULTRA vs Lower Trims

The Ultra trim is the definitive flagship, adding the crucial DiSus-P intelligent hydraulic suspension which allows for a maximum ground clearance of 310 mm—a major upgrade over the 220 mm found on the base Navigator. Inside, the Ultra gains premium Nappa leather, a high-fidelity 18-speaker Devialet audio system, and a dedicated 12.3-inch passenger entertainment screen. It also features a larger 50-inch head-up display and massaging front seats, amenities that turn long desert drives into first-class experiences.

Leopard 5 vs Segment Rivals

The Leopard 5 competes directly with the Land Rover Defender 110 and the Tank 500, leading both in raw acceleration with its 4.8-second 0–100 km/h sprint. While rivals rely on traditional combustion or mild-hybrid setups, the Leopard's DMO platform provides a 1,200 km range that simplifies long trips from Dubai to Muscat or Riyadh. Its integrated 'Panther Turn' capability also gives it a maneuverability edge in tight wadi tracks that larger competitors simply cannot match.

Running Costs & Resale

Real-world efficiency is excellent for its size, with the PHEV system achieving approximately 7.8 L/100km even when the battery is low, significantly outperforming traditional V6 or V8 SUVs in stop-start Dubai traffic. Maintenance is simplified through the growing network of specialized EV/Hybrid service centers in the UAE, such as Al-Futtaim’s dedicated BYD facilities. As a Chinese-spec import, buyers should note that local third-party warranties from providers like EVS or Swiss Auto are the standard for ensuring long-term peace of mind and resale stability.

Performance & Capability

The 680 hp powertrain delivers instantaneous torque, providing effortless overtaking on high-speed UAE highways and massive power for climbing soft sand. The vehicle is equipped with a triple-lock system—front, rear, and a virtual energy center lock—that can shift torque in just 10 milliseconds. Its adjustable hydraulic suspension not only improves off-road approach angles but also lowers the vehicle for better stability and aero-efficiency during high-speed cruising between emirates.

Comfort & Cabin

Designed for the extreme GCC summer, the Ultra features powerful ventilated seats and a high-performance climate control system that can be pre-activated via a mobile app. The cabin is exceptionally quiet thanks to acoustic glass, providing a serene environment for the 18-speaker Devialet sound system to shine. The flat floor and generous second-row legroom make it a genuinely comfortable five-seater for family road trips, while the onboard refrigerator keeps drinks chilled even in 45°C heat.

Safety

Safety is managed by the FiPilot L2+ suite, featuring 24 sensors that provide 360-degree coverage, essential for navigating busy multi-lane highways. Standard features include adaptive cruise control, lane centering, and an automated emergency braking system that excels in both city and highway environments. The high-strength steel chassis and specialized Blade Battery housing provide superior structural integrity, ensuring top-tier protection for all five occupants.

The bottom line

This 2026 Leopard 5 Ultra is the ideal choice for a tech-forward driver who refuses to choose between supercar-level acceleration and genuine desert-conquering hardware. It offers the luxury and efficiency of a modern EV with the long-range security required for life in the GCC.
