About the ML Class

ML Class cars fit in between the GL-Class and GLK-Class suvs. Debuting in 1997, they were originally supposed to know as the M-Class. However, due to rival German manufacturer having their very own M-series, which if you didn’t know is a series of high-performance coupes, convertibles and sedans. To not confuse the two, Mercedes opted for the additional L. Hauling up to five fully grown adults, in 2016, the ML moniker was dropped in favour of the GLE Badge. Did you know that Mercedes-Benz planned to have the ML replace the G! Glad they didn’t. On the road rivals include; Audi Q7, BMW X5 and Volkswagen Touareg.

Entering the already competitive market of SUV’s, the 1998 ML series was the first luxury SUV to come standard with electronic stability control. Other standard features include fabric seats, basic power accessories and a five seat setup. Higher trim levels have leather seats, navigation, Bluetooth functions, cruise control, roof rails, parking sensors, power seats, a third row of seats and a sunroof.

2002 models have a different look inclusive of a new front, and rear lenses for the lights, bumpers, alloy wheels and turn signals move from the front quarter panels to the side mirrors instead.

Models included in this generation; ML 230 with a 2.3-litre four-cylinder motor, ML320, powered by a 3.2-litre V6 engine, ML 430, with a 4.3-litre V8 and at the very top is the ML 55 AMG with a 5.4-litre powerplant. Two transmissions are available; 5-speed manual or automatic.

Entering its second generation, a new body that is more aerodynamic than previous generations which give the cars a sportier look. Dimensions grew all around; 71mm larger and 150mm longer, it also sits 5mm lower than before. Standard and extra options all remained similar to previous generations.

2006 saw the introduction of the ML 63 AMG. Equipped with 6.2-litre petrol V8 petrol engine, 510 horsepower is sent to all four wheels via 7-speed automatic transmission. This family SUV can accelerate from 0-100 km/h in around 4.9 seconds and can reach a top speed of over 250 km/h! At the time, it was the world's most powerful stock SUV. Standard options included parking sensors, navigation, roof rails, memory seats, sunroof, Bluetooth, cruise control and rear view camera.

2009 models have a newer look, with redesigned bumpers, exterior mirrors, grille, new rim selection and an enhanced interior.

The manual transmission doesn’t appear in any of these models. Instead, all versions are mated to a 7-speed automatic transmission. Engines and displacements remain similar with minor adjustments to the outputs and fuel economy.

2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015 and 2016 pre-owned Mercedes ML for sale in Dubai, UAE

Once again going under the knife, a complete overhaul is to the exterior and interior is present. Rear legroom increased as adjustable rear back seats are on offer. New options include adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning system and adjustable air suspension. Previous options and extras transition into the next generation.

2013 introduced an On & Off Road Package. Equipped with a unique powertrain transfer case and diff lock plus a multi offroad selector to tackle any terrain.

Trims and engines available; ML 350 with a 3.5-litre V6, ML 400 equipped with a 3.0-litre V6, ML 550 (ML 500 in certain markets) powered by a 4.7-litre V8 and the ML 63 AMG sporting a 5.5-litre V8 engine. In all models power is sent to all four wheels via a 9-speed automatic transmission.

As previously mentioned, these models were renamed to GLE for 2017 models.
