Introduction

The Ferrari 308, introduced in 1975, became one of Ferrari’s most iconic sports cars of the late 20th century. Designed by Pininfarina, it replaced the Dino 246 GT and brought Ferrari’s mid-engine V8 formula into the spotlight. Produced until 1985 in various forms, including the GTB and GTS, the 308 combined Italian styling, balanced handling, and everyday usability, making it a cornerstone of Ferrari’s lineup during its era.

Later injected models (308 GTBi/GTSi and 308 Quattrovalvole) offered improved reliability and performance, with the Quattrovalvole producing around 240 hp.

Maintaining a 308 requires specialized care, especially with the carbureted engines that demand regular tuning. Timing belt replacements and electrical upkeep are crucial for reliability. While parts are available through Ferrari specialists, costs can be high, making preventative maintenance essential for ownership.

Competitors

The Ferrari 308 competed with the Porsche 911, Lamborghini Urraco, Maserati Merak, and Lotus Esprit. Its blend of Italian design and mid-engine dynamics helped it stand apart as one of the most iconic Ferraris of its generation.
