If you plan to drive in another country, an International Driving Permit (IDP) is a must. It allows you to drive legally in most countries without taking another driving test.

Where to Apply for an IDP in Abu Dhabi
You can apply for the international driving permit through the following authorised channels:
- Automobile and Touring Club of the UAE (ATCUAE) branches
- Emirates Post Offices (selected locations)
- Online via the official ATCUAE website: https://www.atcuae.ae/
The permit is printed in 10 languages and recognised in over 175 countries. You must apply before leaving the UAE.
How to Apply for an International Driving Permit
Online Application Steps
- Go to the ATCUAE website
- Click on ‘Apply Online’
- Enter your personal and licence details
- Choose your licence type
- Upload the required documents
- Select your preferred delivery option
- Submit the application
In-Person Application Steps
Visit any authorised ATCUAE office or Emirates Post location. Bring the required documents (see below), complete the form, pay the fee, and receive a confirmation of your application.

- Completed international driving permit application form
- Copy of your valid UAE driving licence
- Copy of your passport
- Emirates ID or residency visa
- Two recent passport-sized photographs (with white background)

Renewal and Expiry
- The international driving permit is valid for one year only.
- It cannot be renewed automatically. A new application is required after expiry.
