EV charging in Dubai free until December 31st, 2021

Are you hyped up about the Tesla Cybertruck? Or maybe you plan on buying an electric vehicle in the coming months. Now is the perfect time to do so as EV charging in Dubai is free for the next 13 months.

No, this is not a hoax, DEWA tweeted about it this weekend. Initially, the government department had planned to end the programme on the 31st of December 2019

As long as your vehicle is not a commercial vehicle and you are registered to the EV Green Charger programme, you can charge your electric vehicle for free in Dubai!

This only applies to DEWA public charging stations across the UAE. Home charging stations are not part of the progamme.

In case you are not registered, head over to any DEWA happiness centre with your Emirates ID, car license and registration card.

Currently, Dubai’s taxi fleet includes a number of Tesla’s which have proven to be quite popular amongst commuters. Having transported passengers two and from their destinations since 2017, the vehicles have clocked up millions of kilometres.
