Back in the year 1964, an iconic car made its debut in New York and became an instant hit. The new car launch introduced to the world how an American muscle car should look, feel and drive. Six generations later, the car is going still strong and has managed to create a cult following across the globe. Yes, we are talking about the Ford Mustang GT *Goosebumps*.

We recently got our hand on the 2022 Ford Mustang GT Fastback in its Premium trim. We took a closer look at the iconic American muscle car’s design, features and the 5.0-litre V8 engine. Here is our review of the 2022 Ford Mustang GT Premium Fastback review. Find this particular Mustang GT listed on DubiCars for sale in the UAE by Sahara Motors. Before you move to the review, here is a complete history of the Ford Mustang discussed in this linked article.

Exterior Design & Features

The fastback silhouette of the GT is absolutely beautiful and adds a ton of character to the car. Starting up front, the hexagonal grille with a Mustang logo slapped bang in the middle is flanked by sleek-looking LED headlamps on either side. The headlamps feature gill-type DRLs in them and look enticing. The front bumper features an air splitter at the front and channels on either side for enhanced aerodynamics. Completing the look from the front is a set of fog lamps.

On the side, the front fender has the 5.0 badge for the beast living under the bonnet. This particular Mustang GT features 19-inch alloy wheels finished in carbonized grey. At the rear, taking the design centre stage is the three-pod LED taillamp setup similar to the very first Mustang GT. Other features on the rear of the car will include a quad exhaust setup, rear diffuser and lip spoiler at the end of the boot lid. Also, there are no Ford badges on the outside.

Dimension Check:

  • Length: 4,789mm
  • Width: 1,916mm
  • Height: 1,387mm
  • Wheelbase: 2,720mm
  • Boot Space: 382L
  • Ground Clearance: 143mm

Interior Design & Features

The Mustang sports an all-black interior decked in leather on most trim pieces. However, there are a couple of areas with hard plastics that you can spot in the lower part of the interior. The all-black interior is complimented by a host of components finished in brushed aluminium adding a touch of premium and sportiness to the cabin.

The dashboard houses the 12-inch optional driver display on this Mustang GT and three circular air vents in the centre. A rather small 8-inch infotainment is placed on the raised centre console, which also plays host to the automatic transmission, cup holders and climate control settings. You can also spot the small rear seats on the GT, that are suitable only for children. Finally, to top off the looks of the interior, there is a plaque placed on the dashboard in front of the co-driver that says “Mustang”. Some of the other interior features include:

  • Ford Sync 3 Mobile App Connectivity
  • Dual-zone Climate Control
  • Heated & Ventilated Seats
  • 6-way Powered Driver Seat
  • 4-way Powered Passenger Seat
  • Ambient Lighting

Engine & Performance

Now, we speak about that enormous engine that lies under the bonnet. The Mustang GT is powered by a 5.0-litre V8 petrol engine that usually comes mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox. But our review car had the optional 10-speed automatic transmission with power being sent to the rear wheels. Here are some performance numbers:

  • Max Power: 450hp @ 7,500rpm
  • Peak Torque: 556Nm @ 4,600rpm
  • 0 to 100km/h: 4.5 seconds
  • Top Speed: 270km/h

Unlike the old Mustang GT, which didn’t perform well around the corners, this Mustang car certainly handles bends with ease. The chassis and the suspension setup are well-balanced and feel stable. The stopping power is enhanced by ventilated disc brakes and the wheels come shod with Michelin Pilot Sport tyres.

Safety

There are ample amount of active and passive safety features on the Ford Mustang GT. This includes:

  • 8 Airbags
  • Tyre Pressure Monitoring System
  • Adaptive Cruise Control
  • Ford Co-Pilot 360
  • Blind Spot Monitor
  • Cross-Traffic Alert
  • Lane-Keeping System
  • Automatic Emergency Braking
  • Hill Start Assist
