Kia Niro hybrid launched in the Middle East

Revealed right here in the UAE during the International Conference on Future Mobility, Kia’s newest model, the Kia Niro has its eyes firmly set on the Toyota Prius, Hyundai IONIQ and others further expanding hybrid vehicles available in the region.

Kia’s latest crossover is powered by a 1.6-litre petrol engine rated at 104 horsepower and 147 Nm of torque while an electric motor pushes out an additional 43 horsepower for a total of 147 hp. Mated to a 6-speed dual-clutch, front-wheel drive is standard and is the only drivetrain available.

Not only does the electric power unit generate a healthy boost, but it also assists the motor when hybrid mode is engaged and recharges the battery during deceleration.

Customers can expect more than just an eco-friendly motor as the Kia Niro is equipped with a plethora of premium features. This includes wireless smartphone charging, Dual-zone full auto temperature control, parking assist, tyre pressure monitoring system, hill-start assist, electronic stability control and more.

As of writing, no price point has been announced.

Kia Niro: the record setter!

In December 2016, the Niro was officially given the title of lowest fuel consumption by a hybrid vehicle by Guinness World Records. Travelling from Los Angeles to New York City, the Kia Niro recorded a fuel consumption mpg of 76.6.

Previously, the record was held by another South Korean manufacturer and their Kia Optima Hybrid. Back in 2011, the sedan managed an average of 64.55 mpg.
