Exclusive: XPENG GX Previewed In The UAE Ahead Of Its September Launch

The UAE is set to become the first international market outside China to receive the XPENG GX luxury full-size SUV. XPENG UAE showcased the all-new XPENG GX, giving customers an exclusive early look at the brand’s upcoming flagship SUV ahead of its official launch towards the end of September 2026.

An exclusive preview was held from 07 to 10 July 2026 at XPENG’s Sheikh Zayed Road showroom in Dubai, and will be on from 13 to 15 July at the XPENG Abu Dhabi showroom. Pre-booked customers, and prospective buyers were given the opportunity to experience the SUV in person before its official launch in the UAE.

The preview allowed visitors to explore the GX’s technology, luxury-focused cabin, and innovative features up close. Judging by the steady stream of visitors placing deposits throughout the event, interest in XPENG’s new flagship appears to be building rapidly.

Importantly, the GX is still in its pre-launch phase. Customer pre-bookings remain open, with the official unveiling scheduled for September.

What Is The XPENG GX?

The GX is XPENG’s new flagship six-seat luxury SUV that combines premium comfort with next-generation intelligent technology. It is an REEV or EREV hybrid, combining a petrol range extender with a large battery and two electric motors. 

Measuring 5,265mm long, 1,999mm wide, and 1,800mm tall, with a generous 3,115mm wheelbase, the GX sits firmly in the full-size luxury SUV segment. With these dimensions, it’s longer than the Mercedes-Benz GLS and BMW X7 and significantly larger than the Audi Q8.

Instead of chasing outright performance alone, XPENG has clearly focused on passenger comfort. Every row feels spacious, but the second row is where the GX really sets itself apart.

Available exterior colours include:

• Desert Gold Matte
• Cloud Realm (Two-Tone)

At the Dubai preview, every colour except Cloud Realm was on display. Desert Gold Matte easily stood out as the crowd favourite thanks to its fine matte finish, although Arctic White is likely to prove popular with UAE buyers. Inside, buyers can choose between Purple, Brown, and Grey Nappa leather interiors.

The GX is offered in two versions.

XPENG GX Ultra

• Price: AED 245,000 (inclusive of VAT)
• Chinese spec
• Deliveries expected from September 2026
• 5-year / 120,000km vehicle warranty
• 8-year / 160,000km battery warranty

XPENG GX Flagship

• Price: AED 299,000 (inclusive of VAT)
• GCC spec
• Fully certified ADAS package
• Deliveries expected from January 2027
• 7-year / 160,000km vehicle warranty
• 8-year / 160,000km battery warranty

Pre-bookings remain open with a booking amount of AED 10,000 ahead of the official launch.

When Will The XPENG GX Officially Launch In The UAE?

The XPENG GX is scheduled to make its official UAE debut in September 2026. Customer deliveries of the Ultra specification are expected to begin shortly after, while the GCC-spec Flagship model will follow in January 2027.

Why Is The UAE Preview So Significant?

XPENG has chosen the UAE as the first overseas market to launch the GX before its wider international rollout. That reflects the UAE’s growing importance as one of the world’s fastest-growing EV and intelligent mobility markets. It also gives local buyers a rare opportunity to experience the vehicle months before customers in many other regions.

The preview is a part of XPENG’s wider strategy to build anticipation ahead of the official launch while allowing prospective owners to see the SUV before committing to a purchase.

REEV Powertrain: Electrified Driving Experience Without Range Anxiety

The XPENG GX uses a Range-Extended Electric Vehicle (REEV) powertrain. The 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine does not directly drive the wheels under normal operation. Instead, it acts as a generator, recharging the battery whenever additional energy is needed.

Drive comes from dual electric motors producing a combined 496hp & 695Nm. Enough power to complete the 0-100km/h run in under 4.9 seconds. The SUV has a top speed of 200km/h.

The REEV powertrain gives it the smooth, efficient, and eco-friendly performance of an EV, without the long-distance charging concerns associated with fully electric vehicles.

XPENG GX Range:

• 1,240km combined driving range
• 310km pure electric range

310km on electric power alone is quite impressive. The SUV also features Active Noise Cancellation for the range extender, so the occupants should barely notice when the petrol engine starts up to generate electricity.

63.3kWh Battery & 800V Architecture

The GX makes use of an 800V high-voltage platform and features a 63.3kWh liquid-cooled battery, which is one of the largest batteries fitted to a hybrid or range-extended vehicle. For context, most plug-in hybrids and REEVs typically use batteries below 35kWh.

XPENG GX Charging:

• 350kW DC fast charging
• 7kW AC charging
• 10-80% charge in just 11.7 minutes
• Around 301km of driving range added in approximately 12 minutes

The large battery also enables 6kW Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) capability, allowing owners to power external appliances. There’s even a 220V household-style power outlet inside the cabin.

The Cabin Feels More Like Business Class Than An SUV

Inside, it’s immediately obvious where XPENG has invested most of its efforts. The GX gets six seats as standard and attempts to make every journey feel like you’re travelling in a first-class airline cabin.

The highlight is undoubtedly the right-side second-row zero-gravity seat. At the press of a button, the seat reclines, extends its leg rest, adjusts its cushion angle, moves rearwards, and simultaneously slides the front passenger seat forward while reclining it. The result is an enormous amount of legroom and a position that genuinely resembles a business-class airline suite.

The seat also offers:

• 16-point massage
• Ventilation
• Electrically adjustable armrest
• Integrated airbag
• Dual pre-tensioning seatbelt system

Mounted above the second row is a 21.4-inch 3K fold-down entertainment display, while front-row occupants receive:

• 17.3-inch central touchscreen
• 8.8-inch digital driver display
• 88-inch augmented reality head-up display

Audio comes from a high-fidelity 33-speaker sound system, including two speakers integrated into each front headrest and supplemented by three external speakers. The third row folds completely flat, creating a large and practical luggage compartment when additional cargo space is needed.

Beyond the cabin, the GX introduces several technologies that are rarely seen together in a production SUV.

According to XPENG, the difference between the two variants is not hardware but certification. The Flagship trim has its advanced driver assistance systems fully certified for the GCC, while certain ADAS functions remain disabled on the Chinese-spec Ultra trim.

After spending time with the GX during its UAE preview, it’s quite clear that XPENG isn’t trying to launch just another large SUV with headline numbers. This one’s for the luxury car buyers who spend hours on the road and want something that’s efficient, eco-friendly, can clock long distances effortlessly and provides a genuine first-class cabin experience.
