• 80.1 cubic feet maximum cargo volume

Summary

This GCC-spec GMC Envoy SLE is a robust choice for buyers seeking a durable American SUV capable of handling the unique demands of the region. With its naturally aspirated 4.2L inline-six engine, it offers a smoother power delivery than many contemporary V6 rivals, making it ideal for the long highway stretches between emirates. The black exterior is a perennial favorite for resale in the local market, and while the mileage reflects its age, the GMT360 platform is well-regarded for its long-term mechanical simplicity. As a GCC-spec model, it features the cooling systems necessary to manage the extreme summer heat of the Gulf. It stands out as a versatile workhorse that balances family comfort with genuine utility.

This Car vs Other 2005 Envoys

At 290,000 km, this Envoy has been a consistent highway performer, which is common for older SUVs in the GCC. While the mileage is above average, these inline-six engines are known for their longevity when maintained. The black exterior remains a top-tier choice for resale value in the UAE and Saudi markets, offering better retention than lighter, non-metallic colors.

SLE vs Lower Trims

The SLE trim provides a significant step up in convenience over the base fleet models, including dual-zone automatic climate control—a critical feature for keeping the cabin cool during July and August. It also adds premium cloth upholstery and a leather-wrapped steering wheel, providing a more executive feel for daily commuting.

Envoy vs Segment Rivals

The Envoy leads rivals like the Ford Explorer and Jeep Grand Cherokee of the same era with its 4.2L Vortec engine, which provides more horsepower than many contemporary base engines. Its cargo capacity is also a major highlight, offering more usable space for weekend camping trips or cross-border family travel than its Japanese competitors.

Running Costs & Resale

Real-world fuel consumption typically averages around 14.5 L/100km, reflecting its capability as a heavy, all-wheel-drive SUV. Parts availability is excellent across the GCC, with a wide network of authorized and independent service centers in major cities like Dubai, Riyadh, and Kuwait City. As an older model, its depreciation has largely leveled off, making it a stable value-for-money acquisition.

Performance & Capability

The 285 hp inline-six engine allows for confident highway overtaking and smooth cruising at 120 km/h. Its all-wheel-drive system provides necessary traction for gravel roads and light desert excursions, while the nearly 2,900 kg towing capacity makes it one of the more capable haulers in its class. The 200 mm ground clearance ensures it can navigate uneven terrain with ease.

Comfort & Cabin

The 5-seat layout is focused on passenger volume, featuring a wide rear bench that comfortably fits three adults for long road trips. The dual-zone climate control system is powerful enough to combat high ambient temperatures, and the rear privacy glass helps reduce cabin heat soak. The 80.1 cubic feet of maximum cargo space with the rear seats folded provides minivan-like utility in an SUV body.

Safety

Safety features on this SLE trim include four-wheel anti-lock brakes (ABS) and dual-stage front airbags. The stability control and traction assist systems are particularly helpful for maintaining control on sandy highway shoulders or during occasional rainy weather. Its heavy body-on-frame construction provides an added sense of security for high-speed highway travel.

The bottom line

For the buyer looking for a reliable, GCC-ready American SUV with serious towing and cargo capacity, this black Envoy SLE represents a practical and durable opportunity.
