Highlights

• 354 litres boot space
• Extensive GCC authorised service network
• Strong value retention in the GCC used market

Summary

This 2008 Hyundai Matrix GLS is a remarkably preserved example of one of the most practical hatchbacks ever released in the region. With only 78,245 km on the clock, this vehicle has covered significantly less distance than is typical for an 18-year-old car in the GCC, where high-mileage highway commuting is the norm. The Pininfarina-designed exterior in classic Silver remains a high-demand choice for resale in the local market, offering excellent heat reflection and long-term paint durability. While rivals often struggle with interior longevity, the Matrix is known for its hard-wearing cabin materials and a high roofline that provides a sense of space rarely found in compact commuters. For a buyer seeking a reliable, low-maintenance urban runabout with a proven track record in the heat, this low-mileage GLS trim is a standout opportunity.

This Car vs Other 2008 Matrixs

At just 78,245 km, this Matrix has been driven roughly 4,300 km per year—far below the GCC average of 20,000–25,000 km. While many 2008 models in the UAE have surpassed the 250,000 km mark, this unit offers a level of mechanical freshness that is becoming increasingly rare. The Silver exterior is the ideal choice for the local climate, ensuring the cabin stays cooler during summer and holding its value better than darker or unconventional colors.

GLS vs Lower Trims

The GLS trim represents the top tier for the Matrix, adding essential comfort features that elevate it above the basic GL models. Buyers of this GLS benefit from upgraded interior upholstery and power-operated features that were often optional on lower variants. Crucially for the GCC, the GLS typically includes a more robust air conditioning configuration and a more versatile seating arrangement, making it the preferred choice for family logistics.

Matrix vs Segment Rivals

The Matrix leads competitors like the Nissan Tiida and Toyota Avanza in terms of vertical cabin space and ease of entry, thanks to its high-hip seating position. Its 55-litre fuel tank is generous for a car of this footprint, offering extended range for inter-emirate drives between Dubai and Abu Dhabi. Unlike many small hatchbacks, the Matrix feels more like a mini-MPV, providing superior headroom for all five passengers.

Running Costs & Resale

The 1.5-litre powertrain is designed for efficiency in stop-start city traffic, with real-world fuel consumption typically averaging around 8.0 L/100km. Parts availability is a major advantage for Hyundai owners in the UAE, Saudi Arabia, and Oman, as the brand maintains one of the most comprehensive authorized service networks in the region. While European hatchbacks of this age see steep depreciation, the Matrix holds a stable value floor due to its reputation for mechanical simplicity and low repair costs.

Performance & Capability

Delivering 100 hp through a smooth 4-speed automatic transmission, the Matrix is perfectly tuned for urban commuting and steady highway cruising. The front-wheel-drive setup and compact turning circle of 10.4 metres make it exceptionally easy to park in crowded city areas. On the highway, it maintains a composed ride, handling the UAE's high-speed limits with predictable stability and sufficient torque for lane-merging.

Comfort & Cabin

The cabin is defined by its massive glasshouse and high ceiling, creating an airy environment that resists the 'cramped' feel of rival compacts. It features a 354-litre boot that expands significantly with the rear seats folded, catering to grocery runs or small furniture transport. The air conditioning system is specifically designed to handle 45°C+ temperatures, ensuring rapid cooling even after the car has been parked in the sun.

Safety

This GLS trim comes equipped with essential safety features including a standard anti-lock braking system (ABS) and front airbags. The vehicle's high seating position provides the driver with enhanced visibility over traffic, which is a key safety benefit on fast-moving multi-lane highways. Passive safety is bolstered by a reinforced cabin structure designed to maintain integrity in urban collisions.

The bottom line

This is the ideal choice for a budget-conscious buyer or a small family looking for a high-spec, low-mileage workhorse that is easy to maintain across the GCC. Its rare combination of low kilometers and GLS features makes it one of the most sensible used car investments currently available in this price bracket.
