Infiniti G37 EXCELLENCE

• 80-litre fuel tank capacity
• Bose Studio on Wheels 10-speaker audio standard

Summary

This 2009 Infiniti G37 Excellence represents a high-spec entry into one of Japan's most celebrated sport sedan lineages. Despite its 17-year age, the VQ37VHR engine remains a standout for its linear power delivery and mechanical durability, a key reason these cars remain favorites in the GCC. The Excellence trim specifically offers a more refined cabin experience than the base models, making it a comfortable long-distance cruiser between emirates. Silver is a resilient choice for the region, hiding dust well and maintaining a solid resale profile in the secondary market. For a buyer looking for genuine performance without the complexity of modern turbocharged rivals, this naturally aspirated sedan is a robust choice.

This Car vs Other 2009 G37s

With 378,000 km, this G37 has seen higher-than-average use, even by GCC standards where 20,000–25,000 km per year is common. However, the high mileage is balanced by its status as a 17-year-old vehicle, suggesting it has been a reliable daily runner for its previous owners. The silver exterior is a top-tier resale color in the UAE, valued for its ability to deflect heat and maintain its finish under the harsh sun.

EXCELLENCE vs Lower Trims

The Excellence trim elevates the G37 with a focus on luxury, adding features often absent on base models like the premium Bose 10-speaker Studio on Wheels system. It typically includes genuine wood trim and upgraded leather-appointed seating, providing a more executive feel. Buyers also benefit from standard HID xenon headlights and a rearview camera, which were premium options for the model year.

G37 vs Segment Rivals

The G37 often leads rivals like the BMW 3 Series and Lexus IS in raw power, offering a larger 3.7L engine that feels more substantial on open highways. Its 80-litre fuel tank provides a significant range advantage for cross-country drives compared to some European competitors. While rivals might focus on smaller turbocharged engines, the Infiniti's naturally aspirated V6 is celebrated in the GCC for its heat tolerance and simpler maintenance profile.

Running Costs & Resale

Real-world fuel consumption for this 3.7L V6 typically averages around 11.5L/100km, which can rise in stop-start Dubai or Riyadh traffic. As a GCC-spec vehicle, it benefits from a wide network of authorized service centers and specialized independent garages throughout the region, keeping parts availability high and costs manageable. While Japanese luxury sedans like this depreciate around 10-12% annually, the G37 has reached a price floor, making it a stable value-for-money purchase.

Performance & Capability

The heart of this sedan is the 328 hp V6 engine, capable of propelling the car from 0-100 km/h in approximately 5.8 seconds. This performance makes highway overtaking effortless and provides a sporty character that few sedans in this age bracket can match. The 7-speed automatic transmission was a major upgrade for 2009, offering smoother shifts and better highway cruising efficiency than earlier 5-speed units.

Comfort & Cabin

Inside, the G37 provides a driver-centric cockpit with 5-passenger seating and high-quality leather upholstery. The air conditioning system is renowned for its efficiency, a critical factor for GCC summers, and is complemented by rear ventilation for passenger comfort. The cabin is well-insulated, providing a quiet environment even at the higher cruising speeds typical of UAE and Saudi highways.

Safety

The Excellence trim comes equipped with a comprehensive safety suite including six airbags, anti-lock brakes (ABS), and Electronic Stability Control. It also features Traction Control and Electronic Brakeforce Distribution, which are essential for maintaining grip on sandy or rain-slicked road surfaces. The inclusion of a Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) as standard provides additional peace of mind during long desert drives in high temperatures.

The bottom line

This G37 Excellence is an ideal choice for an enthusiast looking for a high-performance, durable Japanese sedan that has already weathered the steepest part of its depreciation curve. It offers a premium cabin and a legendary engine, making it a lot of car for the money in the current GCC market.
