Summary

This 2016 Land Rover LR4 HSE represents the final evolution of the iconic boxy Discovery silhouette, a design that remains highly sought after in the GCC for its timeless road presence. With 101,000 km, this vehicle sits at a very healthy mileage for its age, having averaged just over 12,000 km annually—roughly half the typical GCC average for a family SUV. The blue exterior offers a refreshing alternative to the standard white and silver palette while maintaining strong resale appeal as a final-year production model of this generation. For the UAE buyer, the LR4 is the rare 7-seater that offers genuine off-road capability without sacrificing the premium cabin experience required for daily commutes between Emirates. Its combination of a supercharged V6 and the robust Terrain Response system makes it a versatile tool for both desert weekends and high-speed highway cruising.

This Car vs Other 2016 LR4s

At 101,000 km, this LR4 has been driven significantly less than the 160,000–200,000 km range typically seen on 2016 models in the UAE. This lower usage suggests less wear on the air suspension components and cooling systems, which are critical in the GCC climate. The blue finish is a sophisticated choice that stands out in Dubai traffic while retaining the classic British aesthetic that helps this model hold its value better than more common mass-market colors.

HSE vs Lower Trims

The HSE trim is the essential step-up for GCC families, adding a standard 7-seat configuration with dedicated rear climate controls that are vital during the summer months. Over the base model, the HSE also includes integrated HDD navigation, front parking sensors to assist with tight city parking, and an upgraded 11-speaker Meridian audio system. These features, along with the xenon headlamps, make the HSE significantly more desirable in the local used market compared to the base trim.

LR4 vs Segment Rivals

The LR4 stands apart from rivals like the Lexus GX460 or BMW X5 by offering a unique 'stadium seating' layout that ensures even third-row passengers have a clear view and ample headroom. While the BMW focuses on on-road agility, the LR4 leads with a massive 86-litre fuel tank, providing superior range for long desert highway drives across the GCC. Its upright, airy greenhouse provides visibility that few modern crossovers can match, making it easier to maneuver in both off-road and urban environments.

Running Costs & Resale

The 3.0L supercharged V6 typically sees fuel consumption of roughly 14.5 L/100km in mixed GCC conditions, with the Intelligent Start/Stop system helping to mitigate costs in heavy stop-start traffic in Dubai or Riyadh. Service intervals are recommended every 13,000 km or 12 months, and the authorized service network across the UAE, Saudi Arabia, and Oman is extensive. As the final model year of this generation, the 2016 LR4 enjoys some of the best value retention in the Land Rover lineup, often depreciating slower than newer, more complex replacements.

Performance & Capability

With a 3,500 kg maximum braked towing capacity, the LR4 is a premier choice for hauling boats or trailers to the coast. The 340 hp supercharged V6 provides effortless overtaking power on the E11, while the electronic air suspension allows the vehicle to lower for easy entry or rise to clear obstacles in the sand. The Terrain Response system optimizes the drivetrain for specific surfaces like 'Sand' or 'Gravel,' making it an approachable yet highly capable weekend adventurer for GCC residents.

Comfort & Cabin

The cabin is a standout for family logistics, featuring seven adult-sized seats and a triple-sunroof design that keeps the interior feeling bright and spacious. The HSE trim includes high-quality leather upholstery and dual-zone front climate control, with separate vents and controls for the rear rows to ensure all passengers stay cool in 45°C+ temperatures. The split-tailgate design is a practical favorite in the region, serving as a convenient bench for outdoor gatherings or simplified cargo loading.

Safety

This HSE trim is equipped with a comprehensive suite of safety tech, including Roll Stability Control and Gradient Acceleration Control, which are particularly useful when navigating steep dunes or gravel tracks. Standard front and rear parking sensors paired with a rearview camera help manage the vehicle's boxy dimensions in busy shopping mall parking lots. Six airbags and a robust steel safety cell provide peace of mind for family duties across the Emirates.

The bottom line

For the buyer seeking the perfect balance of low mileage and the legendary 'boxy' Land Rover aesthetic, this final-year LR4 HSE is an exceptional find. It offers the utility of a true 7-seater and the ruggedness of a desert-ready 4x4 without the high mileage usually found in this segment.
