Summary

This 2016 Mercedes-Benz G63 AMG represents the sweet spot of the W463 generation, featuring the desirable hand-assembled 5.5L biturbo V8 before the shift to the smaller 4.0L unit. With mileage reflecting typical GCC highway use, this GCC-spec example benefits from the region's strong black-on-black color resale preference and a service network that spans every major city. It offers a level of mechanical theater and presence that newer, more digital iterations struggle to match. For the UAE buyer, it provides the perfect balance of prestige on the Sheikh Zayed Road and genuine capability for weekend desert escapes. This is an investment in a modern classic that remains the definitive status symbol across the Gulf.

This Car vs Other 2016 G63 AMGs

With approximately 133,458 km, this vehicle sits at the average mileage mark for a 2016 model in the GCC, where long-distance commutes between emirates are standard. The black exterior is the most liquid color for G-Wagons in the local market, ensuring it holds its value better than more experimental paint codes. As a GCC-spec vehicle, it avoids the insurance and cooling complications often found with North American imports.

STANDARD vs Lower Trims

The AMG G63 sits at the top of the G-Class hierarchy, adding the handcrafted engine and the iconic side-exit sports exhaust system that defines the model's character. Compared to the G500 of the same era, this trim includes 20-inch AMG wheels, high-performance braking systems, and the designo interior package with diamond-stitched leather. It also features a more aggressive body kit and the AMG-specific instrument cluster that buyers in this segment demand.

G63 AMG vs Segment Rivals

The G63 stands alone against rivals like the Range Rover SVR and Lexus LX 570 due to its triple-locking differentials and body-on-frame construction, offering superior durability for desert terrain. While the Range Rover may offer a smoother air-ride experience, the G63 provides a 96-litre fuel tank that is essential for long cross-border drives across the GCC. Its resale value in the Middle East consistently outpaces its European competitors.

Running Costs & Resale

Real-world fuel consumption typically averages around 13.8 L/100km on the highway, though GCC city traffic will see this rise significantly. Maintenance is well-supported by a massive network of authorized service centers and specialized independent garages across the UAE and Saudi Arabia. The G63 traditionally loses roughly 12-15% of its value annually in the GCC, which is a slower depreciation rate than most high-performance luxury SUVs.

Performance & Capability

The 537 hp V8 delivers a 0-100 km/h time of 5.4 seconds, providing effortless overtaking power on fast-moving UAE highways. Its off-road hardware is legitimate, featuring a low-range transfer case and 235 mm of ground clearance to handle soft sand and rocky wadis with ease. The 7G-TRONIC transmission is tuned for decisive shifts, managing the 760 Nm of torque to ensure the vehicle never feels its weight during spirited driving.

Comfort & Cabin

The five-seat cabin is designed for the GCC climate, featuring powerful multi-zone air conditioning and ventilated front seats to combat summer heat. Nappa leather and Alcantara finishes provide a premium feel, while the Harman Kardon Logic 7 sound system ensures high-fidelity audio even at highway speeds. Despite its rugged exterior, the cabin is well-insulated, making it a comfortable environment for family road trips between Dubai and Salalah.

Safety

This G63 comes equipped with a comprehensive safety suite including Distronic Plus adaptive cruise control, which is invaluable for long highway stretches. Blind Spot Assist and a rearview camera help navigate the vehicle's boxy dimensions in busy city traffic, while Electronic Stability Program (ESP) and high-performance ABS provide security on unpredictable surfaces like loose gravel or wet tarmac. The heavy-duty steel frame offers a level of passive protection few modern crossovers can match.

The bottom line

This GCC-spec G63 is the ideal choice for an enthusiast who wants the raw power of the 5.5L V8 in a color combination that guarantees future resale liquidity.
