Summary

This 2016 Mitsubishi Lancer EX GLX is a hallmark of Japanese reliability, perfectly suited for the demanding GCC climate and daily commuting. As a 10-year-old vehicle, it remains a popular choice in the region due to its mechanical simplicity and the exceptional availability of parts across the UAE and beyond. The silver exterior is one of the most practical choices for the local market, offering high heat reflection and strong resale appeal. With its reputation for durability, this sedan offers a straightforward ownership experience for those prioritizing long-term value and ease of maintenance. The Lancer EX stands out as a robust workhorse that has consistently held its ground against newer rivals through sheer engineering resilience.

This Car vs Other 2016 Lancer EXs

With a mileage of 224,755 km, this vehicle aligns with the typical highway-heavy usage seen in the GCC, where annual averages often reach 25,000 km. While higher than some weekend-only cars, Lancers of this vintage are frequently sought after specifically for their ability to handle high-mileage duty without significant mechanical fatigue. The silver finish provides a distinct advantage at resale, as it is among the most preferred colors in the UAE for its ability to mask desert dust and maintain a clean appearance.

GLX vs Lower Trims

The GLX trim provides the essential foundation of the Lancer experience, featuring a reliable automatic transmission and a focus on core durability. While higher trims like the GLS or GT add aesthetic flourishes such as spoilers or sunroofs, the GLX is often preferred by practical buyers for having fewer electronic components to maintain in the extreme summer heat. It retains the same spacious cabin and efficient cooling system found across the range, ensuring comfort during peak UAE temperatures.

Lancer EX vs Segment Rivals

The Lancer EX is frequently cross-shopped with the Toyota Corolla and Nissan Sunny, leading the segment in terms of straightforward mechanical accessibility and parts affordability. Its suspension is notably robust, designed to handle the varied road surfaces found across the emirates, from smooth highways to gravel-strewn industrial areas. While rivals may offer more modern infotainment, the Lancer’s 59-litre fuel tank provides a generous range for long-distance drives between cities like Dubai and Abu Dhabi.

Running Costs & Resale

Real-world fuel consumption for the 2.0L MIVEC engine typically averages between 8.0 and 9.0 L/100km, making it efficient for both stop-start traffic and high-speed cruising. Maintenance is exceptionally convenient thanks to an extensive network of authorized service centers and independent workshops across all GCC countries. The Lancer EX is famous for its low depreciation rate, often retaining a higher percentage of its value after a decade compared to its European counterparts. Owners can expect straightforward 10,000 km service intervals that are among the most affordable in the compact sedan class.

Performance & Capability

Powered by the 2.0-litre MIVEC engine, this Lancer EX delivers a reliable 150 hp, providing steady power for highway overtaking and confident city driving. The INVECS-III CVT transmission is specifically tuned for smoothness, eliminating the gear hunting often found in traditional automatics during varied GCC driving conditions. With a 32.8 ft turning circle, it is exceptionally maneuverable in tight urban parking environments. The vehicle’s ground clearance is well-suited for the occasional uneven terrain or high speed bumps common in older residential neighborhoods.

Comfort & Cabin

The cabin is designed with a 5-seat layout that prioritizes headroom and visibility, creating an airy feel despite its compact sedan dimensions. Mitsubishi’s air conditioning systems are renowned for their 'ice-cold' performance, a critical factor for comfort during the UAE summer months. The boot offers a practical 351 litres of space, which can be further expanded via the 60:40 split-folding rear seats to accommodate larger items. Cabin materials are chosen for their resilience to sun exposure, ensuring the interior remains well-preserved even after years of use in the region.

Safety

This trim includes essential safety features designed for high-speed highway environments, including dual front airbags and an Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) with Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD). The reinforced Impact Safety Evolution (RISE) body construction provides a rigid shell to protect occupants in the event of a collision. These standard features ensure the Lancer meets the fundamental safety expectations for family and commuter use across the GCC.

The bottom line

This Mitsubishi Lancer EX is the ideal choice for a buyer seeking a dependable, silver-toned workhorse with a proven track record of durability in the UAE market. It offers the perfect balance of low running costs and high resale potential, making it a secure investment for daily regional commuting.
