Summary

This 2021 Mitsubishi Mirage GLX is a standout choice for the practical commuter, offering exceptional fuel efficiency that ranks among the best for non-hybrid vehicles in the GCC. With mileage that is slightly above the regional average for its age, it remains mechanically sound and well-suited for long-distance highway driving between emirates. The Silver exterior is one of the most resilient colors against the harsh desert sun, ensuring strong resale value in the local used market. As a facelifted model, it includes updated styling and modern tech essentials that make it a far more compelling buy than earlier versions. For a buyer in the UAE or wider GCC, the peace of mind offered by Mitsubishi’s massive service footprint is a key ownership advantage.

This Car vs Other 2021 Mirages

Compared to typical 2021 models in the GCC market, this Mirage has covered approximately 17,000 km per year, which is lower than the regional average of 20,000 km. The Silver paint is a strategic choice for this region, as it reflects heat better than darker tones and holds its value exceptionally well during resale. While many available units are basic ES trims, this GLX offers a balanced feature set for daily urban use.

GLX vs Lower Trims

The GLX trim provides meaningful upgrades over the base entry-level specifications, most notably the inclusion of the 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as standard. This trim also benefits from the 2021 facelift's improved interior materials and geometric fabric seat patterns, which provide a more durable and modern feel than the pre-facelift base trims. Crucially for the GCC climate, the GLX maintains a high-output air conditioning system designed for rapid cabin cooling.

Mirage vs Segment Rivals

In the subcompact sedan segment, the Mirage is frequently cross-shopped with the Toyota Yaris and Kia Pegas. While rivals might offer slightly more horsepower, the Mirage leads the group in real-world fuel economy and maneuverability, featuring a tight 4.8-meter turning circle that makes it easier to park in crowded areas like Dubai Marina or Riyadh’s city center. It also offers a competitive 351-liter boot, which is surprisingly generous for its external dimensions.

Running Costs & Resale

The Mirage is one of the most affordable cars to run in the GCC, with a combined fuel consumption of roughly 5.9 L/100km. Service intervals are typically every 10,000 km, and Mitsubishi’s extensive network through Al Habtoor in the UAE and Alesayi in Saudi Arabia ensures parts are affordable and readily available. Japanese subcompacts like this typically depreciate at a slower rate of 8-10% annually compared to European rivals, making it a safe financial investment.

Performance & Capability

The 1.2L engine is optimized for efficiency and smooth city cruising, delivering 78 hp that feels sprightly in stop-start traffic thanks to the car's lightweight construction. On the highway, the CVT transmission keeps the engine in its most efficient power band, making it capable of handling long drives between Abu Dhabi and Dubai with ease. It features a standard Hill Start Assist system, which is particularly helpful when navigating the steep ramps of multi-story parking garages common across the region.

Comfort & Cabin

Inside, the Mirage G4 sedan offers a surprisingly spacious cabin that comfortably seats five adults, with more rear legroom than many other cars in this class. The 2021 updates include a redesigned dashboard and a standard 7-inch display that puts navigation and media at your fingertips. The air conditioning is specifically tuned for high-temperature environments, ensuring the cabin stays cool even during the peak of the GCC summer.

Safety

Safety is a priority for the 2021 model year, which now includes Forward Collision Mitigation with Pedestrian Detection as a standard feature across all trims. The vehicle is built on Mitsubishi’s RISE (Reinforced Impact Safety Evolution) body structure and comes equipped with a comprehensive seven-airbag system. Additional standard safety tech includes Active Stability Control and a rearview camera, providing essential assistance for fast-moving GCC highway traffic.

The bottom line

This Mitsubishi Mirage is the ideal match for a budget-conscious professional or a small family looking for a reliable, fuel-sipping sedan with a proven service history in the GCC. It represents a smart opportunity to own a modern, tech-equipped commuter that is cheaper to run than almost anything else on the road.
