Summary

This 2016 Nissan Patrol Pick Up SGL is a legendary workhorse that continues to dominate the GCC off-road and utility segments. With its robust manual transmission and the iconic 4.8-litre 'TB48DE' engine, it offers a visceral driving experience and mechanical simplicity that modern rivals struggle to match. The gold exterior is a highly desirable choice in the region, offering excellent thermal management and strong resale appeal in the used market. Given the average annual mileage for such vehicles in the GCC, this listing represents a well-used but mechanically sound option for those prioritizing durability over gadgetry. For a buyer looking for a desert-ready platform or a heavy-duty hauler with extensive parts availability, this Patrol remains the definitive choice.

This Car vs Other 2016 Patrol Pick Ups

With 215,000 km, this vehicle aligns with the higher end of average GCC usage for a ten-year-old utility truck, typically covering 20,000–25,000 km annually. Its GCC specification is a critical advantage, ensuring the cooling system and air conditioning are engineered for extreme heat. The gold paint is a practical and popular choice for the UAE climate, showing less desert dust and maintaining a higher resale value than non-standard shades.

SGL vs Lower Trims

The SGL trim provides significant upgrades over the base DX model, including power windows, power door locks, and chrome exterior accents on the grille and mirrors. It also features a superior interior trim with upgraded seating materials and a standard refrigerator in the center console—a highly prized feature for long summer drives across the Emirates. Unlike lower trims, the SGL typically includes the rear differential lock as standard equipment, greatly enhancing its off-road capability.

Patrol Pick Up vs Segment Rivals

The Patrol Pick Up leads the Toyota Land Cruiser 79 Series in terms of high-speed highway stability and engine smoothness thanks to its coil-spring front suspension and inline-six configuration. While rivals like the Chevrolet Silverado offer more tech, the Nissan's 4.8L engine is far simpler to service in remote areas of the GCC. It also features a larger fuel capacity when equipped with the sub-tank, providing a significant range advantage for trans-border drives or desert expeditions.

Running Costs & Resale

Real-world fuel consumption for the 4.8L engine averages around 16.5 L/100km in GCC conditions, reflecting its high-displacement nature. However, these costs are offset by the vehicle's legendary durability and the most extensive service network in the region, spanning every major city from Dubai to Muscat. The Patrol Pick Up retains roughly 55-60% of its value after three years in the GCC, outperforming almost all American and European pickups in the used market.

Performance & Capability

The 420 Nm of torque provides relentless pulling power, making the 2,500 kg braked towing capacity feel effortless even on soft surfaces. A selectable low-range transfer case and manual locking hubs ensure maximum traction for weekend dune bashing or heavy-site hauling. With a 700 mm wading depth and high ground clearance, it is engineered to navigate flooded wadis and rocky mountain paths without hesitation.

Comfort & Cabin

The two-seater cabin is designed for utility but maintains essential comforts like a powerful GCC-spec air conditioning system that cools the small cabin almost instantly. The manual transmission offers a direct connection to the drivetrain, preferred by traditionalists for better control in sand. Integrated cup holders, a cooled center console, and a simple, durable dashboard layout make it a practical workspace for long-distance driving in extreme heat.

Safety

Safety is focused on mechanical reliability and essential protection, including dual front airbags and an Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) as standard on this trim. The body-on-frame construction provides a rigid safety cell, while the inclusion of a rear pintle hook as standard ensures safe recovery operations during off-road use. Large side mirrors offer excellent visibility for monitoring fast-moving highway traffic or large towed loads.

The bottom line

For the enthusiast or professional seeking a bulletproof GCC-spec workhorse, this manual Patrol Pick Up SGL offers the perfect balance of legendary 4.8L power and proven desert capability.
