Summary

This 2017 Ford Ranger Wildtrak remains a formidable choice for those seeking a rugged diesel workhorse with high-end cabin finishes. As the range-topping trim of its generation, the Wildtrak balances heavy-duty capability with advanced interior features that are rarely found in standard utility pickups. While the mileage reflects a high-use life on GCC highways, this 3.2-litre five-cylinder engine is globally recognized for its long-term durability when maintained correctly. In a market where white is the premier color for heat reflection and resale stability, this truck stands out as a practical, high-torque solution for both site work and weekend adventures. The combination of Ford's robust chassis and the premium Wildtrak aesthetics ensures it remains competitive against newer, less-equipped rivals.

This Car vs Other 2017 Rangers

With 300,000 km, this vehicle has seen significantly more use than the typical GCC annual average of 25,000 km, suggesting it was likely a long-distance highway cruiser or a dedicated project vehicle. While the mileage is high for the model year, the White exterior provides a distinct advantage in the GCC market, as it is the most sought-after color for heat management and secondary market demand. Its regional GCC specification ensures the cooling system and air conditioning are built to withstand extreme summer temperatures unlike imported counterparts.

WILDTRAK vs Lower Trims

The Wildtrak trim is a significant step up from the XLT, adding essential high-spec features like the SYNC 3 infotainment system with an 8-inch touchscreen and a more refined cabin featuring orange contrast stitching. It also includes the distinct Wildtrak aero sports bar, titanium-effect exterior accents, and 18-inch alloy wheels as standard. For the GCC driver, the inclusion of a rearview camera and front/rear parking sensors on this trim makes navigating city traffic and tight worksites considerably easier than in base models.

Ranger vs Segment Rivals

When compared to the Toyota Hilux or Mitsubishi L200, the Ranger Wildtrak leads with a superior 3,500 kg towing capacity and a more powerful 5-cylinder diesel engine. Its 80-litre fuel tank is specifically beneficial for long-distance travel between emirates or across borders, providing greater range than many competitors. The interior refinement of the Wildtrak often feels more like a passenger SUV than a traditional pickup, giving it an edge for owners who use their truck for both business and family duties.

Running Costs & Resale

The 3.2L diesel engine delivers a real-world combined fuel consumption of approximately 9.0L/100km, offering a cost-effective alternative to petrol-powered V6 trucks in heavy-traffic environments like Dubai or Riyadh. Ford’s authorized service network, managed by Al Tayer and Premier Motors in the UAE, provides reliable parts availability across the region. While the Ranger faces steeper initial depreciation than the Toyota Hilux, the Wildtrak trim tends to stabilize in value better than lower trims due to its high demand as a lifestyle vehicle.

Performance & Capability

Equipped with 470 Nm of torque, this Ranger is built for heavy lifting and effortless highway overtaking even when fully loaded. The 237 mm ground clearance and standard 4x4 drivetrain with low-range gearing make it highly capable for weekend desert excursions or navigating soft sand tracks. Its 6-speed automatic transmission is tuned to handle high-torque demands, ensuring smooth power delivery whether you are towing a boat or cruising at 120 km/h on the E11.

Comfort & Cabin

The Wildtrak interior features a 5-seat layout with unique cloth and leather-accented upholstery designed to resist the wear and tear of a work environment. The dual-zone climate control is highly effective for the GCC summer, ensuring the cabin stays cool even under direct midday sun. Acoustic glass and improved insulation over the base models provide a quieter ride on long highway journeys, making the 300,000 km feel less taxing for the driver and passengers.

Safety

Standard safety equipment on this Wildtrak includes a comprehensive airbag system, Electronic Stability Control (ESC) with Hill Descent Control, and Hill Start Assist, which are particularly useful on steep dunes or construction ramps. The inclusion of Lane Keeping Aid and Adaptive Cruise Control on this model year was a segment-leading feature, providing extra security during long desert drives where driver fatigue can occur.

The bottom line

This Ranger Wildtrak is an ideal match for a buyer who needs maximum towing power and premium cabin tech without the high price tag of a low-mileage unit. It represents a rare opportunity to own a top-spec GCC workhorse that is mechanically ready for its next chapter.
