Summary

This 2017 Santa Fe Sport offers a practical entry into the SUV segment, balancing daily usability with a comfortable five-seat layout. As an American spec model in a popular silver finish, it provides a cost-effective alternative to local counterparts while maintaining the model's reputation for safety and interior flexibility. The 2.4L engine is a proven choice for city commuting and smooth highway cruising between Emirates. With its stain-resistant fabric and generous cargo room, it is well-suited for families who need a durable workhorse that handles the school run and weekend grocery trips with ease. For a GCC buyer, this represents a high-value opportunity to own a modern crossover with a strong service network across the region.

This Car vs Other 2017 Santa Fe Sports

With 200,000 km on the odometer, this vehicle has been driven approximately 25,000 km per year, which is consistent with typical high-mileage highway commuting in the GCC. Silver remains one of the most practical and high-demand resale colors in the region due to its ability to reflect heat and hide desert dust. While the mileage is higher than average, the Santa Fe's mechanical simplicity ensures continued reliability with regular maintenance.

SPORT vs Lower Trims

The Sport trim provides significant upgrades over the entry-level configurations, including 17-inch alloy wheels, automatic headlights, and a rearview camera as standard. It features YES Essentials stain-resistant cloth upholstery, which is a major advantage for families in the GCC. Additionally, this trim includes a 5-inch color display and a six-speaker audio system, offering better cabin technology than the base fleet versions.

Santa Fe vs Segment Rivals

The Santa Fe Sport competes directly with the Toyota RAV4 and Honda CR-V, standing out with its superior interior passenger volume and higher standard airbag count. While Japanese rivals often lead in pure resale value, the Hyundai offers a more composed highway ride and more versatile 40/20/40 split-folding rear seats. Its boot space is among the most competitive in the compact SUV class, making it a favorite for those prioritizing utility.

Running Costs & Resale

Real-world fuel consumption for the 2.4L engine averages around 9.8 L/100km on the highway, though city driving in heavy Dubai or Riyadh traffic will see this rise. As an American spec vehicle, it may be priced lower than GCC spec equivalents, but it benefits from the massive Hyundai authorized service network across the UAE and Saudi Arabia. Parts are readily available and affordable, contributing to a lower overall cost of ownership compared to European rivals.

Performance & Capability

The naturally aspirated 2.4L GDI engine delivers 185 hp, providing steady power for highway overtaking and city maneuvers. The 6-speed automatic transmission is tuned for smoothness, ensuring a comfortable experience during long drives across borders. While not intended for heavy off-roading, its 185 mm ground clearance is more than sufficient for gravel tracks and the occasional weekend camping trip in established desert sites.

Comfort & Cabin

The cabin is designed for five adults, featuring class-leading rear legroom that makes long-distance travel across the Emirates comfortable. The air conditioning system is efficient, and the inclusion of rear cooling vents is vital for maintaining passenger comfort during the peak GCC summer. The 40/20/40 split rear seats allow for long items like strollers or sports gear to be loaded without sacrificing the entire back row.

Safety

Safety is a hallmark of this model, which comes standard with seven airbags, including a driver’s knee airbag—a feature often missing in competitors. The suite includes Electronic Stability Control (ESC) and Traction Control, which are essential for maintaining grip on sandy or rain-slicked roads. It also features a tire pressure monitoring system, ensuring you are alerted to fluctuations caused by the extreme ground temperatures common in the region.

The bottom line

For the budget-conscious buyer looking for a reliable and spacious family SUV, this Santa Fe Sport offers the best balance of safety and utility in the current used market.
