• Active on-demand all-wheel drive with lock mode
• 488 litres of boot space

Summary

This 2017 Hyundai Tucson GLS offers a versatile driving experience with its larger 2.4L engine, a notable step up from the base 2.0L variants commonly found in this segment. The silver exterior is a top-tier choice for the GCC market, known for its heat-deflection properties and exceptional resale demand. With 120,000 km, this crossover has been driven at a standard pace for its age in the region and remains a mechanically robust choice for daily commutes. It balances urban agility with all-wheel-drive stability, making it ideal for young families or professionals looking for a dependable workhorse. Hyundai's strong service presence across the UAE ensures long-term maintenance is both straightforward and cost-effective.

This Car vs Other 2017 Tucsons

While many 2017 Tucsons in the GCC are equipped with the standard 2.0L engine, this GLS model features the more powerful 2.4L GDI powertrain, providing better highway performance. Its mileage of 120,000 km is perfectly average for a seven-year-old vehicle in the region, where highway-heavy lifestyles often result in 20,000 km per year. The silver paintwork is arguably the most sensible choice for the local climate, as it hides dust effectively and maintains a higher resale value than niche colors.

GLS vs Lower Trims

The GLS trim provides a significant jump in comfort and capability over the base SE model, most notably upgrading the powertrain to the 178 hp 2.4L engine. Buyers also benefit from the active all-wheel-drive system with a dedicated 50/50 lock mode, a feature often absent on lower-tier front-wheel-drive versions. Interior upgrades typically include improved cabin materials and a more comprehensive infotainment setup that enhances the daily driving experience.

Tucson vs Segment Rivals

When compared to rivals like the Toyota RAV4 and Kia Sportage, the Tucson stands out for its balanced ride quality and efficient use of interior space. Its all-wheel-drive system is highly regarded for stability during heavy seasonal rains or on loose gravel tracks. While the RAV4 often commands a higher initial price, the Tucson offers a more modern interior design and features that are typically locked behind higher price brackets in its competitors.

Running Costs & Resale

The 2.4L powertrain delivers a real-world combined fuel consumption of approximately 9.5L/100km, which is efficient for a naturally aspirated AWD crossover in GCC traffic. Hyundai's massive service network—including Juma Al Majid in the UAE and Wallan in Saudi Arabia—ensures that parts are always available and competitively priced. In the local market, the Tucson holds its value well, typically seeing a depreciation rate of 12-15% annually, which is superior to many European rivals in the same class.

Performance & Capability

With 178 hp and an active all-wheel-drive system, this Tucson is well-equipped for long highway drives between emirates and light weekend exploration. The Shiftronic automatic transmission allows for smooth power delivery, while the AWD lock mode provides extra traction when navigating sandy parking areas or gravel paths. It handles the extreme summer heat with a robust cooling system designed for high-stress environments, ensuring consistent performance even when temperatures exceed 45°C.

Comfort & Cabin

The cabin is designed for five passengers with a focus on ergonomics and practical storage, featuring a boot that offers up to 488 litres of space for family groceries or weekend luggage. High-quality insulation helps keep the cabin quiet on the highway, and the powerful air conditioning system is built to provide rapid cooling during the peak of summer. The silver exterior is complemented by a cabin layout that prioritizes visibility and ease of use for all passengers.

Safety

Safety is a priority in the Tucson, which carries a 5-star ANCAP rating and features a comprehensive suite of protective technology. Standard equipment on this trim includes Electronic Stability Control, Traction Control, and a multi-airbag system to protect all occupants. For GCC highway driving, the inclusion of Brake Assist and Electronic Brakeforce Distribution provides essential stopping power in fast-moving traffic.

The bottom line

This silver Tucson GLS is the ideal pick for a buyer wanting a reliable, AWD crossover that handles the GCC climate with ease while maintaining strong future resale value.
