Summary

This Canadian-spec SUV represents the first model year of the fourth-generation redesign, offering a significantly sharper aesthetic and more powerful drivetrain than its predecessors. In the GCC market, the black exterior remains a resilient choice for resale, especially when paired with the high-specification Platinum trim features. The RX350 stands out for its legendary reliability and cabin quietness, often outlasting European rivals in extreme desert heat. For a local buyer, the primary consideration is the long-term value retention and the widespread availability of specialized Lexus service centers across the UAE and KSA.

This Car vs Other 2016 RX350s

With 158,000 km, this vehicle sits at a typical mileage for a 2016 model in the GCC, where highway-heavy commuting between emirates often results in higher annual use than global averages. The Canadian regional spec offers a robust cold-weather package, including a heated steering wheel and heated rear seats, which provides a unique luxury edge for local winter desert escapes. While Canadian cars require a verification of their service history to ensure climate-specific maintenance, the black exterior is a high-demand, high-resale color in the UAE market.

PLATINUM vs Lower Trims

The Platinum trim elevates the cabin experience with the 12.3-inch high-definition navigation display and the premium 15-speaker Mark Levinson audio system, both of which are highly sought after by GCC buyers. It adds essential safety and convenience tech including a 360-degree Panoramic View Monitor, a full-color Head-Up Display (HUD), and touchless power back door operation. Furthermore, the Platinum edition features ventilated front seats and Triple-Beam LED headlamps, providing superior cooling and visibility during the intense Gulf summer nights.

RX350 vs Segment Rivals

When compared to the BMW X5 and Audi Q5, the Lexus RX350 is built for durability rather than just raw sprinting, utilizing a naturally aspirated V6 that handles the high-temperature stop-start traffic of Riyadh or Dubai with fewer cooling complications. It leads the segment in long-term reliability and offers a more cushioned ride quality that excels on long desert highway stretches. The cabin insulation and AC performance are specifically noted by owners for being more effective in 45°C+ temperatures than many of its German counterparts.

Running Costs & Resale

Lexus enjoys some of the strongest value retention in the GCC, typically depreciating at a rate of 8-10% annually compared to 15% for similar European SUVs. Real-world fuel consumption for the 3.5L V6 averages roughly 12.2 L/100km in city traffic and drops significantly to around 8.9 L/100km on open highways. Authorized service centers are exceptionally well-distributed through Al-Futtaim in the UAE and Abdul Latif Jameel in Saudi Arabia, with standard service intervals recommended every 10,000 km.

Performance & Capability

The enhanced 3.5-litre V6 delivers 295 hp, providing smooth and linear acceleration that is ideal for confident highway overtaking and merging. Paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission, the drivetrain is tuned for refinement rather than aggressive shifting, maintaining a serene cabin environment even at high cruising speeds. While primarily a road-biased SUV, its 208 mm of ground clearance and selectable drive modes provide adequate capability for gravel tracks and weekend drives to desert campsites.

Comfort & Cabin

The five-seat layout is focused on passenger comfort, featuring standard ventilated front seats that are essential for the GCC climate. The redesign for this model year added more rear legroom, making it a genuine family choice for inter-city travel. Acoustic glass and extensive sound-deadening materials ensure the interior remains a quiet sanctuary, isolating occupants from the noise and heat of busy metropolitan traffic.

Safety

The 2016 RX350 comes equipped with the Lexus Safety System+, which includes Pre-Collision System with Pedestrian Detection and All-Speed Dynamic Radar Cruise Control, perfect for long highway commutes. Standard Blind Spot Monitoring and Lane Departure Alert with Steering Assist provide vital support on multi-lane UAE highways. Ten airbags and a 5-star safety rating from international testing bodies ensure comprehensive protection for all five occupants.

The bottom line

For the buyer seeking Japanese reliability with top-tier luxury, this Platinum trim RX350 offers the ideal balance of tech and durability in a high-resale color.
