Summary

This 2017 Mercedes-Benz E400 offers a compelling balance of performance and luxury, bridging the gap between the standard 4-cylinder models and the full AMG range. At nine years old with 143,000 km, its mileage is exactly where we expect for a premium commuter in the GCC, representing a well-utilized but mechanically sound life on Japan's smooth roads. The Silver exterior is a premier resale choice in the region, known for hiding dust and maintaining higher market value than niche colors. For the local buyer, this biturbo V6 provides the effortless highway overtaking power that smaller engines lack, making it a sophisticated choice for cross-emirate travel. As a Japanese regional spec, it benefits from a history of strict inspections and generally superior interior preservation.

This Car vs Other 2017 E400s

With 143,000 km over nine years, this E400 has averaged roughly 15,800 km annually, which is notably lower than the GCC average of 20,000–25,000 km for executive sedans. This lower usage typically results in less wear on the suspension and cooling components, a major advantage for a long-term owner. The Silver paint is highly favored in the UAE used market for its heat-reflecting properties and strong resale demand.

STANDARD vs Lower Trims

Choosing the E400 over the E200 or E300 replaces the 4-cylinder engine with a significantly more powerful 333 hp biturbo V6. Beyond the engine, this trim often incorporates higher-grade interior materials and the impressive 12.3-inch COMAND widescreen display as standard, features that remain high-priority for GCC buyers. The added torque makes it much more suited to high-speed highway traffic than its smaller-displacement siblings.

E400 vs Segment Rivals

Compared to the BMW 540i or Audi A6 3.0T, the E-Class leads with a more modern, S-Class-inspired interior design and a focus on ride suppleness. Its 9G-TRONIC transmission provides more gear ratios for smoother cruising than many rivals, aiding efficiency on long desert drives. Mercedes-Benz also enjoys one of the most comprehensive authorized service and parts networks across the UAE and Saudi Arabia.

Running Costs & Resale

Real-world fuel consumption for the biturbo V6 typically averages around 8.5–9.0 L/100km on the highway, though GCC city traffic can see this rise toward 11.5 L/100km. Service intervals are managed by the ASSYST Plus system, typically falling every 15,000 km, with specialized European workshops widely available across the GCC to manage costs. Japanese spec models are well-regarded for their condition, though buyers should ensure the navigation and radio frequencies are converted for local use.

Performance & Capability

The E400 stands out with a 0-100 km/h time of just 4.9 seconds, providing sports-car acceleration in a refined sedan body. The biturbo V6 delivers 480 Nm of torque from low in the rev range, ensuring effortless power for overtaking on the E11 or E311 highways. Selectable drive modes allow you to stiffen the suspension for agility or soften it for maximum comfort during long-distance travel.

Comfort & Cabin

The cabin is designed for five passengers, featuring high-quality insulation that keeps the interior quiet and cool even in peak summer temperatures. Standard dual-zone climate control and rear cooling vents are essential for the GCC climate, ensuring all passengers remain comfortable. The digital cockpit and ambient lighting create a high-tech atmosphere that still feels contemporary nine years after production.

Safety

This E-Class features a comprehensive safety suite including Pre-Safe technology, multiple airbags, and stability control systems. Standard features like blind-spot monitoring and active brake assist are particularly valuable for navigating the fast-moving, multi-lane highways common in Dubai and Riyadh. The rigid passenger cell and advanced crumple zones reflect Mercedes-Benz's long-standing leadership in crash protection.

The bottom line

For the buyer who wants V6 performance without the running costs of an AMG, this Japanese-spec E400 is a high-value opportunity in a market-leading resale color.
