Mitsubishi Pajero GLS H/L PLATINUM

Summary

This 2017 Mitsubishi Pajero in the sought-after Platinum trim represents a rare chance to own one of the GCC’s most durable off-road icons. While its mileage reflects a typical long-distance UAE commute history, the vehicle’s legendary mechanical simplicity makes it a far safer high-mileage bet than complex European rivals. The white exterior is the gold standard for resale in the region, offering maximum heat reflection and strong demand on the used market. As a GLS Highline Platinum, it bridges the gap between rugged 4x4 capability and the premium cabin features local families demand. For the GCC buyer, this remains the definitive choice for a vehicle that can navigate the school run on weekdays and the Liwa dunes on weekends.

This Car vs Other 2017 Pajeros

With 173,000 km, this Pajero has been driven roughly 24,000 km per year, which aligns perfectly with the GCC average for a highway-commuted SUV. While lower-mileage examples exist, they often command a significant price premium that doesn't necessarily reflect better mechanical health given this model's 500,000 km durability reputation. The white paintwork is a strategic advantage here, as it remains the most liquid color for resale in the UAE and Saudi markets.

GLS H/L PLATINUM vs Lower Trims

The Platinum trim is a significant step up from the base GLX and standard GLS models, adding the high-fidelity 12-speaker Rockford Acoustic Design system which is a favorite for long desert drives. It also includes the electric sunroof, leather upholstery, and powered front seats that are often missing on mid-range variants. Most importantly for the GCC climate, it features the enhanced dual-zone automatic climate control system with dedicated rear-passenger vents and controls.

Pajero vs Segment Rivals

When compared to the Toyota Prado or Nissan Pathfinder, the Pajero leads with its unique Super Select II 4WD system, which allows for high-speed 4WD driving on tarmac—a major safety benefit during the UAE's occasional rain or sandstorms. Its 88-litre fuel tank offers superior touring range for cross-border trips to Oman compared to more modern crossovers. While rivals have moved toward car-based platforms, the Pajero's rally-bred heritage provides a level of desert reliability that is increasingly hard to find.

Running Costs & Resale

The 3.8L V6 engine is tuned for the region's 95 or 98 octane fuel and is known for its ability to handle extreme summer heat without complaint. Maintenance is remarkably affordable thanks to an authorized service network that spans every major city from Dubai to Kuwait City, ensuring parts are always available and inexpensive. Depreciation for the Pajero has flattened significantly, making it one of the most stable assets in the used SUV market with roughly 10% annual retention loss compared to the 15-18% seen in the luxury segment.

Performance & Capability

The 3.8-liter V6 delivers a robust 250 hp, providing the low-end torque necessary for soft-sand recovery and effortless highway overtaking at 120 km/h. It features a genuine low-range transfer case and a center-locking differential, allowing it to tackle terrain that would stop a modern soft-roader. With a ground clearance of approximately 235 mm and a specialized 'AWC' (All Wheel Control) system, it is purpose-built for the rugged landscapes of the Middle East.

Comfort & Cabin

The 7-seat cabin is designed for GCC family logistics, featuring a third row that can be stowed completely flat for massive cargo space or removed entirely. The powerful Mitsubishi AC system is specifically engineered for 45°C+ temperatures, cooling the large cabin rapidly via ceiling-mounted vents. Premium touches like the leather-wrapped steering wheel and the wood-grain interior accents provide an executive feel during city commutes.

Safety

This trim is equipped with Mitsubishi’s Active Stability and Traction Control (ASTC), which is essential for maintaining grip on loose gravel and sand. It features a comprehensive airbag system and a reinforced monocoque body with a built-in ladder frame for maximum impact protection. The inclusion of a rearview camera and parking sensors as standard makes navigating tight urban parking in areas like Dubai Marina or Riyadh Front much simpler for a vehicle of this size.

The bottom line

This is the ideal purchase for a buyer seeking a 'bulletproof' GCC-spec SUV that balances premium Platinum-trim luxury with genuine desert-conquering hardware. It is a proven workhorse that offers the best value-for-money ratio in the 7-seater segment today.
