Summary

This 2017 Mitsubishi Pajero represents a robust choice for GCC buyers, combining the high-spec GLS H/L Platinum trim with the proven reliability of the 3.8L V6 engine. In the local market, white remains the strongest resale color due to its heat-reflecting properties and high demand, making this a smart long-term investment. While rivals have moved toward road-biased platforms, this model retains its rugged body-on-frame construction, ensuring it handles desert weekends and long highway hauls with equal ease. The extensive service network across the UAE and wider GCC provides unmatched peace of mind regarding maintenance and parts availability. It is a definitive all-rounder for families seeking a dependable seven-seater that doesn't shy away from off-road adventures.

This Car vs Other 2017 Pajeros

With 174,000 km, this vehicle sits within the typical usage range for a GCC-based SUV, where long-distance highway commutes between emirates are common. While the mileage is consistent with the region's average of 25,000 km per year, its White exterior gives it a distinct resale advantage over darker alternatives in the local used market. Choosing the 3.8L V6 variant over the more common 3.5L engine ensures you have the necessary power for safe overtaking on fast-moving UAE motorways.

GLS H/L PLATINUM vs Lower Trims

The GLS Platinum trim elevates the ownership experience by adding premium features that GCC buyers prioritize, including a power sunroof and upgraded leather upholstery. Unlike the base GLX or standard GLS, the Platinum often features the Rockford Fosgate premium audio system and enhanced wood-grain interior accents. It also includes 18-inch alloy wheels and chrome exterior detailing, providing a more executive presence on the road compared to lower-tier workhorse variants.

Pajero vs Segment Rivals

Compared to the Toyota Prado or Nissan Pathfinder, the Pajero leads with its sophisticated Super Select 4WD II system, which allows for high-range 4WD driving on paved surfaces—a major safety benefit during rare GCC rainstorms. Its 88-litre fuel tank is specifically suited for long-distance desert crossings or trips from Dubai to Muscat. While some rivals offer more modern infotainment, the Pajero’s mechanical simplicity and cooling efficiency remain superior for the extreme summer temperatures found in the region.

Running Costs & Resale

Real-world fuel consumption for the 3.8L V6 averages around 13.5L/100km, though this can rise in stop-start city traffic in Dubai or Riyadh. Service intervals are typically every 10,000 km at authorized centers like Al Habtoor Motors, with a vast network of independent specialists ensuring affordable maintenance elsewhere. The Pajero enjoys exceptionally slow depreciation in the GCC, often retaining its value better than European luxury SUVs due to its reputation for bulletproof durability.

Performance & Capability

The 3.8L V6 engine delivers 243 hp, providing a more authoritative drive than the entry-level engines, particularly when fully loaded with seven passengers. Its 235 mm ground clearance and specialized off-road modes make it a genuine contender for dune bashing in Liwa or exploring rocky wadis in Hatta. With a 3,000 kg braked towing capacity, it is also perfectly equipped for hauling jet skis or weekend trailers.

Comfort & Cabin

The seven-seat layout is highly flexible, featuring a third row that can be folded flat or removed entirely to maximize cargo space. The dual-zone climate control is engineered for the Middle Eastern climate, with dedicated rear vents that ensure passenger comfort even when outside temperatures exceed 45°C. The Platinum trim’s cabin is well-insulated, offering a quiet environment for long family road trips across the borders.

Safety

This trim comes equipped with a comprehensive safety suite including Active Stability and Traction Control (ASTC), which is essential for maintaining grip on sandy or gravel-covered roads. It features multiple airbags, including side and curtain units, providing all-around protection for the family. The inclusion of a rearview camera and parking sensors as standard makes navigating tight parking spots in major GCC cities significantly easier for a vehicle of this size.

The bottom line

For the GCC family or adventurer, this GLS Platinum Pajero offers the perfect blend of high-end features and legendary durability. It is a highly liquid asset in the local market that promises reliable service for years to come.
