Mitsubishi Pajero GLS H/L ROCKFORD

Highlights

• 235 mm ground clearance
• 12-speaker Rockford Fosgate audio system standard
• 88-litre fuel tank

Summary

This GCC-spec Mitsubishi Pajero represents the peak of the model's reliability, featuring the robust 3.8L V6 engine that is widely preferred in the region over the smaller 3.5L variant. With only 74,000 km, this vehicle has been driven significantly less than the typical GCC annual average, making it a rare find for a 2016 model. The Red exterior offers a distinctive look in a market dominated by white and silver, while the Rockford Fosgate trim adds a layer of acoustic refinement to a legendary off-road platform. For a UAE buyer, this Pajero provides the perfect balance of a daily family hauler and a weekend desert explorer, backed by the most extensive service network in the Middle East. It remains a top choice for those who value mechanical simplicity and proven durability in extreme heat.

This Car vs Other 2016 Pajeros

With just 74,000 km on the odometer, this Pajero has averaged less than 10,000 km per year, which is exceptionally low compared to the GCC average of 20,000–25,000 km. While the Red exterior is a bolder choice, the GLS High-Line trim level ensures it remains highly desirable for resale. Finding a low-mileage 3.8L V6 in this condition is increasingly difficult as these vehicles are typically used as high-mileage workhorses.

GLS H/L ROCKFORD vs Lower Trims

The GLS High-Line Rockford edition sits at the top of the hierarchy, most notably adding the premium 12-speaker Rockford Fosgate acoustic system and a dedicated subwoofer. Unlike mid-range trims, this version includes the full-size sunroof, wood-grain interior accents, and high-intensity discharge (HID) headlamps. It also features the more powerful 3.8L engine and 18-inch alloy wheels, providing better road presence and overtaking power than the base GLS.

Pajero vs Segment Rivals

When compared to the Toyota Prado or Nissan Pathfinder, the Pajero leads with its specialized Super Select II 4WD system, which allows for high-range four-wheel drive on paved roads—a major safety advantage during rare GCC rainstorms. Its 88-litre fuel tank provides superior range for long-distance desert trips compared to many modern crossovers. Furthermore, the Pajero's compact wheelbase relative to its 7-seat capacity makes it significantly easier to park in tight Dubai or Riyadh malls.

Running Costs & Resale

The 3.8L V6 is a tried-and-tested engine that handles the GCC’s stop-start traffic and extreme summer heat with ease, typically consuming around 13.5 L/100km in mixed conditions. Maintenance is remarkably affordable, with service intervals every 10,000 km and an authorized service network that spans every major city in the UAE and wider GCC. The Pajero enjoys one of the lowest depreciation rates in the region, often retaining 60-70% of its value even after five years of use.

Performance & Capability

Built on a rally-proven heritage, this Pajero features 235 mm of ground clearance and a 700 mm wading depth, making it genuinely desert-ready. The 3.8L engine delivers 236 hp, providing the necessary torque for climbing dunes or towing up to 3,000 kg. Its Super Select II system includes a locking rear differential, ensuring you can navigate soft sand where road-biased SUVs would struggle.

Comfort & Cabin

The cabin is designed for family utility, offering a 7-seat configuration with a third row that folds completely flat into the floor to maximize cargo space. High-performance air conditioning with rear-seat vents and dedicated controls is standard, ensuring the cabin stays cool even when outside temperatures exceed 45°C. The premium Rockford Fosgate audio system provides a studio-quality listening experience, effectively insulating passengers from road noise during long highway drives.

Safety

This trim comes equipped with a comprehensive safety suite including active stability and traction control (ASTC), which is vital for maintaining grip on sandy or gravel-strewn roads. Standard safety features include multiple airbags, ABS with electronic brakeforce distribution, and a reinforced IMPACT safety evolution (RISE) body construction. The inclusion of cruise control and a rear-view camera makes long-distance highway travel and urban maneuvering significantly safer.

The bottom line

This low-mileage 3.8L Rockford edition is the ideal opportunity for a buyer seeking a bulletproof, top-spec SUV that has spent more time in the garage than on the dunes.
