• Extensive GCC authorised service network

Summary

This 2017 Toyota Land Cruiser EXR is a definitive choice for GCC buyers seeking a balance of legendary V8 durability and practical everyday utility. With 118,000 km, its mileage is significantly lower than the regional average for a seven-year-old 4x4, making it a highly reliable prospect for long-term ownership. The black exterior is the most sought-after resale color in the UAE market, ensuring strong value retention when it comes time to upgrade. As a GCC-spec model, it is factory-equipped with the high-capacity cooling systems essential for peak performance during the extreme Gulf summer. This Land Cruiser stands out as a robust, no-nonsense workhorse that feels equally at home on the daily school run or exploring the desert on weekends.

This Car vs Other 2017 Land Cruisers

At 118,000 km, this vehicle has been driven approximately 16,000 km per year, which is well below the typical GCC average of 20,000–25,000 km for large SUVs. This lower-than-average usage suggests less mechanical wear on the suspension and powertrain. The black paintwork is a premium choice that typically commands a higher resale price in the local market compared to niche colors.

EXR vs Lower Trims

The EXR trim serves as the entry point into the V8 range, providing the essential off-road hardware like Crawl Control and Multi-Terrain Select that the base V6 models often lack. While higher trims focus on cosmetic luxury, the EXR includes practical features like dual-zone climate control with rear vents and a robust infotainment system, prioritizing mechanical strength and functional comfort.

Land Cruiser vs Segment Rivals

Compared to the Nissan Patrol, the Land Cruiser offers superior long-term value retention and a more widespread service network across the entire GCC. Its 138-litre dual fuel tank configuration provides a longer cruising range for cross-border trips or desert expeditions than many American rivals. The 4.6-litre V8 is widely regarded by local mechanics for its legendary reliability and ease of maintenance.

Running Costs & Resale

The Land Cruiser remains the gold standard for resale value in the Middle East, typically depreciating at a much slower rate than European or American SUVs. Service intervals are standardized at 10,000 km, and with one of the most extensive authorized service networks in the region, parts are readily available and affordable. Real-world fuel consumption reflects its heavy-duty nature, but the 95-octane petrol compatibility keeps running costs predictable for a V8.

Performance & Capability

The 4.6-litre V8 produces 304 hp and 439 Nm of torque, delivering smooth power for highway overtaking and the low-end grunt needed for soft sand. It features a full-time 4WD system with a Torsen limited-slip center differential and a low-range transfer case for serious off-roading. With a ground clearance of approximately 230 mm, it is purpose-built to navigate deep dunes and rocky wadis without compromise.

Comfort & Cabin

The seven-seat cabin is designed for family logistics, featuring a versatile 40/20/40 split second row and 50/50 folding third-row seats. The air conditioning system is world-renowned for its cooling speed, a vital feature for the UAE's 45°C+ summer days. It includes a cooled center console box, keeping drinks chilled during long desert drives or extended city commutes.

Safety

Standard safety equipment on the EXR includes front and side airbags, electronic stability control, and a traction control system specifically tuned for varied terrain. It also features ISOFIX child seat anchors and anti-lock brakes (ABS) with Brake Assist. The body-on-frame construction provides a rigid safety cell, while the parking sensors and rearview camera assist with navigating this large SUV in urban environments.

The bottom line

This Land Cruiser EXR is the ideal match for a family or enthusiast who wants the prestige and power of a V8 with the reliability of a well-maintained, lower-mileage GCC-spec vehicle.
