Summary

This 2018 Dodge Durango R/T offers a compelling balance of American muscle performance and family-sized utility. With the iconic 5.7L HEMI V8, it provides effortless highway cruising and significantly higher towing capability than typical V6 competitors. The R/T trim is particularly sought after in the GCC for its aggressive SRT-style bodywork and performance-tuned suspension, which remains stable during long-distance drives across the Emirates. White remains the strongest resale color for this model locally, helping maintain value in a competitive market. For a buyer needing seven seats without sacrificing power, this well-maintained GCC-spec example is a versatile choice.

This Car vs Other 2018 Durangos

At 116,348 km, this Durango has been driven roughly 19,000 km per year, which is below the typical GCC average of 25,000 km. In a market where many 2018 models have already crossed the 150,000 km mark, this unit offers a mechanical advantage for longevity. The white exterior is the most preferred color in the region for heat management and ease of resale.

R/T vs Lower Trims

The R/T trim provides a substantial leap over the V6-powered GT, introducing the 5.7L V8 and the aggressive performance hood standard. It also upgrades the cabin with a 9-speaker Alpine premium audio system, a power-adjustable steering column, and ventilated front seats, which are essential for GCC summers. Performance-tuned steering and suspension also provide sharper handling than the road-biased SXT or GT trims.

Durango vs Segment Rivals

The Durango R/T competes directly with the Ford Explorer and Chevrolet Traverse, leading the segment with its authentic V8 powertrain and superior towing capacity. While rivals often use turbocharged V6 engines, the HEMI V8's heat tolerance and linear power delivery are better suited for the GCC's long, fast-moving highways. Its 93-litre fuel tank also provides a greater cruising range than many competitors during cross-border trips.

Running Costs & Resale

Real-world fuel consumption for the 5.7L HEMI averages around 13.5 L/100km combined, with the Multi-Displacement System (MDS) aiding efficiency during steady highway driving at 120 km/h. Service intervals are typically every 10,000 km, supported by an extensive authorized network across the UAE and Saudi Arabia. The R/T trim historically retains value better than base models in the GCC, depreciating roughly 12-15% annually.

Performance & Capability

Equipped with 360 horsepower and 528 Nm of torque, this Durango R/T delivers robust acceleration and a class-leading maximum towing capacity of 3,356 kg. The heavy-duty cooling system and rear load-leveling suspension ensure consistent performance even when fully loaded with seven passengers. While road-focused, its high torque makes it highly capable for pulling boats or trailers to the coast on weekends.

Comfort & Cabin

The seven-seat layout is designed for maximum family comfort, featuring a three-zone climate control system with dedicated rear vents to combat extreme temperatures. Uconnect 8.4-inch touchscreen provides seamless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration, paired with the premium Alpine sound system. High-quality leather and suede upholstery, along with heated and ventilated seats, ensure a refined environment for long-distance emirate-to-emirate commutes.

Safety

Standard safety features on the R/T include a rearview camera, rear parking sensors, and Trailer Sway Control, which is vital for stable highway towing. The vehicle is equipped with seven airbags and active head restraints to ensure maximum protection for all rows. Electronic Stability Control and heavy-duty disc brakes provide reliable stopping power and traction on both sandy coastal roads and high-speed motorways.

The bottom line

This GCC-spec R/T is the ideal pick for an active family that demands V8 power and premium tech while benefiting from a mileage count that is better than the local market average.
