Summary

This 2018 Range Rover Sport SVR represents the peak of Land Rover's performance engineering, offering supercar-rivalling acceleration in a practical SUV body. Its grey exterior is a highly sought-after shade in the GCC, ensuring strong resale demand and excellent heat reflection compared to darker tones. As the flagship SVR trim, it provides a significantly more aggressive driving experience than standard models, making it a standout choice for those who value both prestige and power. For the GCC buyer, the combination of a high-capacity supercharged engine and robust cooling makes this a formidable companion for both rapid city commutes and long-distance desert highway drives. It offers a rare blend of track-ready dynamics and the off-road heritage Land Rover is known for.

This Car vs Other 2018 Range Rover Sports

With 144,000 km on the odometer, this SVR has been driven approximately 18,000 km per year, which is remarkably low compared to the GCC average of 20,000–25,000 km. Most eight-year-old performance SUVs in the region have typically covered significantly more distance on the vast highway networks between emirates. This lower-than-average mileage makes it a prime candidate for a buyer looking for a well-preserved example of this specific model year.

SVR vs Lower Trims

The SVR is a significant leap over the Autobiography or HSE Dynamic trims, featuring a unique 575 hp calibration of the 5.0L V8 that provides 55 hp more than the standard Supercharged model. It gains SVR-exclusive performance seats with Windsor leather, an active exhaust system for a more visceral sound, and carbon fiber accents that are not found on lower tiers. Additionally, it features stiffer suspension tuning and larger Brembo brakes designed to handle high-speed driving in the intense summer heat.

Range Rover Sport vs Segment Rivals

The SVR holds its own against competitors like the Porsche Cayenne Turbo and Mercedes-AMG GLE 63 S by offering a more commanding driving position and superior off-road clearance. While its rivals focus almost entirely on the tarmac, the Range Rover Sport retains its 278 mm ground clearance and Terrain Response 2 system, allowing for weekend desert excursions that would sideline other performance SUVs. Its 104-litre fuel tank also provides a superior cruising range for long-distance travel across the GCC.

Running Costs & Resale

Real-world fuel consumption for the SVR typically averages around 12.8 L/100km on combined cycles, though city driving in stop-start traffic in Riyadh or Dubai may see higher figures. The SVR trim historically retains its value better than standard Range Rover models in the GCC due to its status as a Special Vehicle Operations product. Maintenance should be performed every 26,000 km or 12 months at authorized centers available throughout the UAE, Saudi Arabia, and Kuwait to ensure the supercharger and cooling systems remain optimal.

Performance & Capability

The heart of this SVR is its 5.0-litre supercharged V8, delivering 700 Nm of torque for effortless overtaking on fast-moving multi-lane highways. It features a maximum wading depth of 850 mm and adjustable air suspension, ensuring it can navigate varied terrain from gravel paths to flooded city streets during seasonal rains. Despite its 2.3-tonne weight, the specialized SVR dampers and torque-vectoring rear differential provide flat, precise cornering.

Comfort & Cabin

Inside, the 2018 refresh introduced the Touch Pro Duo dual-screen infotainment system, providing a modern digital cockpit experience. The cabin features dedicated rear climate vents and powerful multi-zone air conditioning essential for GCC summers, alongside heated SVR-branded performance seats. Acoustic glass helps insulate the interior from both exterior desert heat and road noise during long-distance highway cruises.

Safety

Standard safety tech on this SVR includes a 360-degree parking aid, blind-spot monitoring, and emergency braking systems. For the high-speed environments common in the GCC, the adaptive cruise control and lane-keep assist provide significant peace of mind. The vehicle is also equipped with a comprehensive airbag suite and stability control systems specifically calibrated for the SVR's higher performance threshold.

The bottom line

For the enthusiast driver in the GCC, this low-mileage SVR represents a rare opportunity to own a performance icon in a resilient color at a fraction of its original cost. It is the perfect balance for a buyer who demands supercar performance without sacrificing the daily utility of a luxury SUV.
