Summary

This GCC-spec 2018 G500 offers a compelling entry point into G-Class ownership, combining the iconic boxy silhouette with a modern 4.0-litre V8 biturbo engine. While its mileage reflects a life of consistent highway use across the Emirates, its grey exterior remains one of the most resilient and sought-after colors for maintaining resale value in the local market. As an 8-year-old vehicle, it stands as the final evolution of the legendary W463 generation, offering a tactile and mechanical driving experience that many enthusiasts prefer over newer digital models. For a GCC buyer, this is a chance to own a status-defining SUV that remains exceptionally capable in both Dubai traffic and weekend desert excursions.

This Car vs Other 2018 G500s

With a mileage of 181,825 km over 8 years, this G500 has averaged roughly 22,700 km annually, which aligns perfectly with typical GCC highway usage where long-distance commutes are standard. While lower-mileage examples exist, they often carry a significant price premium, making this a high-value alternative that has been regularly driven and maintained. The grey metallic finish is a strategic choice for the region, hiding desert dust effectively while retaining higher desirability at resale compared to niche colors.

STANDARD vs Lower Trims

In the GCC, the G500 'Standard' trim is anything but basic, coming equipped with essentials like ventilated front seats and a premium Harman Kardon audio system that are often optional in other markets. It includes the full off-road hardware suite, featuring three independent differential locks—a must-have for local enthusiasts—alongside Nappa leather upholstery and the COMAND navigation system. This trim strikes the ideal balance between the luxury expected in the UAE and the rugged durability the G-Class is famous for.

G500 vs Segment Rivals

The G500 leads rivals like the Range Rover Sport and Lexus LX 570 in terms of pure mechanical off-road hardware, being one of the few luxury SUVs to retain a body-on-frame construction with three locking differentials. Its vertical greenhouse provides superior visibility in tight city parking and heavy highway traffic compared to the sloping lines of European performance crossovers. Additionally, the G-Class typically experiences much slower depreciation in the GCC market than its British or American competitors.

Running Costs & Resale

Real-world fuel consumption for the 4.0L V8 biturbo averages around 12.3 L/100km, though this can rise in stop-start Dubai traffic. Mercedes-Benz maintains one of the most extensive authorized service networks across the UAE and Saudi Arabia, ensuring parts availability and expert care are never far away. As a GCC-spec model, it avoids the warranty and cooling concerns associated with imports, helping it retain approximately 50-60% of its value even at this age and mileage.

Performance & Capability

The biturbo V8 delivers a verified 422 hp and 610 Nm of torque, enabling a swift 0–100 km/h sprint of 5.9 seconds which is impressive for a vehicle of this mass. Its 241 mm ground clearance and 700 mm wading depth make it overqualified for most weekend desert drives, while the 9G-TRONIC automatic transmission ensures smooth cruising on the E11. The selectable low-range gear and triple locks provide peace of mind for those looking to explore deeper into the dunes.

Comfort & Cabin

The cabin is tailored for the GCC climate with powerful multi-zone climate control and standard ventilated front seats to combat summer heat. Acoustic glass helps isolate the interior from road noise during long drives to Abu Dhabi or Oman, while the upright seating position provides excellent long-distance comfort for five adults. Luxury touches like ambient lighting and a power sunroof ensure the interior feels premium despite the vehicle's rugged exterior capabilities.

Safety

Standard safety equipment for this trim includes a comprehensive suite of airbags and advanced driver aids such as Blind Spot Assist and Distronic adaptive cruise control, which are vital for fast-moving multi-lane highway traffic. The vehicle also features Parking Assist Parktronic with a rear-view camera and Trailer Stability Assist, ensuring stability and ease of movement whether navigating Al Quoz or towing equipment for a desert camping trip.

The bottom line

This G500 is the perfect choice for a buyer who wants the unmistakable presence and off-road pedigree of a G-Wagon without the premium price tag of a brand-new model. Its GCC specification and full-feature trim make it a reliable, high-status daily driver ready for immediate use in the region.
