Mercedes Benz GLA 45 AMG STANDARD

Highlights

• 0–100 km/h in 4.4 seconds
• Hand-built engine
• 360 hp from a 2.0-litre four-cylinder

Summary

This Mercedes-AMG GLA 45 remains one of the most exciting compact SUVs in the UAE market, featuring a hand-assembled engine that delivers exceptional performance. While its mileage is higher than average for an 8-year-old vehicle in the GCC, the Canadian regional spec offers a high standard of equipment often missing in base local models. Silver is a perennial favorite for resale in this region, effectively hiding dust and maintaining its luster under the intense sun. As a performance-tuned crossover, it offers the perfect balance between daily city practicality and high-speed highway stability for drives across the Emirates. For any buyer, the priority here is the legendary AMG powertrain, which provides sports-car acceleration in a versatile SUV frame.

This Car vs Other 2018 GLA 45 AMGs

With 202,000 km, this vehicle has been driven extensively compared to the typical 160,000–200,000 km expected for an 8-year-old car in the UAE. However, high-mileage AMGs often reflect highway use, which is common for long commutes between Dubai and Abu Dhabi. The Silver exterior is a strong choice for the local market, ensuring better resale value than less traditional colors.

STANDARD vs Lower Trims

As the full AMG model, this trim adds significant performance hardware over the GLA 250, including the hand-built M133 engine and 4MATIC all-wheel drive. You also benefit from the AMG Speedshift dual-clutch transmission and upgraded sports suspension, features that are highly sought after by enthusiasts in the UAE. Inside, it replaces standard materials with AMG-specific styling and performance-oriented tech.

GLA 45 AMG vs Segment Rivals

When compared to rivals like the Audi RS Q3 or the Porsche Macan, the GLA 45 stands out for having the highest specific power output of any production four-cylinder at the time. Its compact footprint makes it significantly easier to park in busy areas like Downtown Dubai while maintaining the ground clearance needed for speed bumps and uneven urban terrain. The 56-litre fuel tank provides a respectable range for cross-border drives to Oman or weekend trips to Ras Al Khaimah.

Running Costs & Resale

Real-world fuel consumption typically averages around 10–12 L/100km in GCC stop-start traffic, dropping significantly during steady highway cruising. As a Canadian spec vehicle, buyers should note that while parts are widely available through Mercedes-Benz's extensive UAE service network, the resale value is typically 10–15% lower than GCC-spec equivalents. Service intervals are generally every 15,000 km, and ensuring the complex dual-clutch transmission is maintained at authorized centers is vital for longevity.

Performance & Capability

The standout figure is the 0–100 km/h sprint of just 4.4 seconds, enabled by the 475 Nm of torque delivered to all four wheels. This acceleration makes highway merging and overtaking effortless, even in the fast-paced traffic of the E11. Multiple drive modes, including Sport+, allow you to stiffen the chassis for spirited weekend drives while maintaining a comfortable profile for the daily commute.

Comfort & Cabin

The cabin comfortably seats five and features the iconic AMG circular vents and sports seating designed to hold you firmly during cornering. Even in the peak of the UAE summer, the dual-zone climate control is engineered to cool the compact cabin rapidly. The 421-litre boot space is ample for grocery runs or family luggage, proving that high performance doesn't have to sacrifice daily utility.

Safety

Standard safety equipment includes Mercedes-Benz’s Pre-Safe system, Attention Assist, and multiple airbags to protect all occupants. The 4MATIC all-wheel-drive system provides crucial stability on sandy or rain-slicked roads, while the high-performance AMG braking system ensures rapid stopping power. Blind Spot Assist is particularly helpful for navigating the multi-lane highways common across the GCC.

The bottom line

This is an ideal entry point into the AMG world for a buyer who wants supercar-slaying performance without the supercar price tag. While the mileage is higher, the sheer engineering quality of the Affalterbach engine makes this a compelling performance SUV for the UAE's fast roads.
