Summary

This 2018 Mercedes-AMG S63 represents the definitive facelift of the W222 generation, featuring the highly desirable 4.0L Biturbo V8 that delivers supercar performance in an executive body. Finished in classic Black, this Korean-spec example offers a high-value entry into the S-Class flagship tier, typically holding a price advantage over GCC-spec counterparts while sharing identical mechanical underpinnings. The 2018 model year is particularly sought after in the UAE for its updated 'Panamericana' grille and the shift to the faster 9-speed MCT transmission. For a GCC buyer, the primary consideration is the Korean regional spec, which provides a premium cabin experience at a more accessible price point. This car is an ideal choice for those seeking a high-performance daily driver that balances boardroom presence with 612 hp capability.

This Car vs Other 2018 S63 AMGs

With 151,000 km, this vehicle has been driven more than the typical 20,000 km per year average for luxury cars in the UAE, suggesting consistent highway use between cities. Its Black exterior is the strongest resale color in the GCC market, ensuring it remains highly liquid when it's time to upgrade. While the mileage is higher than average, the 2018 facelift mechanicals are proven for durability in long-distance regional commuting.

STANDARD vs Lower Trims

The S63 AMG is a significant leap over the S560, replacing the standard V8 with a hand-assembled AMG engine and adding the 4MATIC+ fully variable all-wheel-drive system. This trim includes the AMG-specific IWC analog clock, performance steering wheel, and the multicontour sports seats that are essential for long drives in the GCC heat. It also standardizes the 360-degree camera and Burmester surround sound, features that are often optional on lower S-Class trims.

S63 AMG vs Segment Rivals

When compared to the BMW M760Li or the Audi S8, the S63 AMG leads with its iconic V8 soundtrack and superior brand prestige in the Middle East. Its 4.0L engine is more fuel-efficient for long highway stints than the BMW's V12, while the 4MATIC+ system provides better traction on sandy road shoulders than older AWD systems. The interior remains the segment benchmark for material quality and cooling efficiency in extreme temperatures.

Running Costs & Resale

Real-world fuel consumption averages around 13.0 L/100km in mixed GCC traffic, though highway cruising can drop significantly lower. Service intervals are typically every 15,000 km, and while this is a Korean spec, mechanical parts are globally standardized and readily available through major UAE specialists. This model faces an annual depreciation of approximately 15% in the local market, though the facelifted 2018-2020 models tend to hold value better than pre-facelift versions due to the updated technology suite.

Performance & Capability

The standout figure is the 3.5-second 0-100 km/h acceleration, a feat enabled by the 900 Nm of torque and the Race Start function. This power makes highway overtaking effortless on the E11 or E311, even in peak summer heat. The AMG Speedshift MCT 9-speed transmission provides lightning-fast shifts, while the adaptive air suspension can be raised for clearing speed bumps or lowered for high-speed stability.

Comfort & Cabin

Configured as a 4-seater, this cabin prioritizes rear-passenger luxury with individual seating and executive legroom. It features ventilated and heated seats both front and rear, an absolute necessity for the GCC climate, ensuring comfort even when parked in the sun. The dual 12.3-inch widescreen displays provide a modern digital cockpit experience, complemented by 64-color ambient lighting to suit any evening drive through the city.

Safety

The 2018 S63 comes equipped with a comprehensive suite of safety tech including Active Braking Assist, Blind Spot Assist, and Pre-Safe Impulses. The adaptive cruise control (Distronic) is particularly useful for the long, straight highways between Dubai and Abu Dhabi. Additionally, the LED Intelligent Light System with Ultra Range Highbeam provides exceptional visibility during nightly desert highway transits.

The bottom line

This S63 AMG is a perfect match for the enthusiast who wants the presence and power of a modern AMG flagship without the premium of a low-mileage GCC-spec listing. It offers the best of the W222 facelift upgrades in the most popular color combination available in the Emirates.
