Summary

This 2018 Porsche 718 Cayman S offers a precision-engineered entry into mid-engine performance, finished in a high-resale White that remains the most sought-after color in the GCC market. While the mileage reflects a history of regular highway use typical of the region, the 'S' trim provides a substantial performance leap over the base model with its larger, more powerful 2.5-litre engine. It stands out in its segment for its near-perfect weight distribution and telepathic handling, making it a favorite for weekend drives to Jebel Jais or the smooth highways between Abu Dhabi and Dubai. For a buyer seeking the definitive Porsche sports car experience without the footprint of a 911, this GCC-spec example provides an ideal balance of pedigree and daily usability.

This Car vs Other 2018 718 Caymans

At approximately 149,900 km, this vehicle's mileage is above the global average but aligns with the standard 20,000–25,000 km annual usage seen across the GCC's highway-heavy landscape. The White exterior is a significant advantage for local resale, as it is the most popular choice for heat reflection and market demand. As a GCC-spec model, it features the cooling and filtration systems necessary for the region's climate that international imports often lack.

S vs Lower Trims

The 'S' trim is a major mechanical upgrade over the base 718 Cayman, swapping the 2.0L engine for a 2.5L unit equipped with Variable Turbine Geometry (VTG)—technology previously reserved for the 911 Turbo. This results in an extra 50 horsepower and 60 Nm of torque, providing much sharper overtaking power on fast-moving UAE highways. Additionally, the S trim often includes larger 19-inch wheels and upgraded brakes as standard, ensuring the chassis stays ahead of the increased power.

718 Cayman vs Segment Rivals

The 718 Cayman S leads rivals like the Jaguar F-Type and Alpine A110 in pure mid-engine balance and everyday practicality, offering two trunks (frunk and rear) for regional road trips. While competitors may offer larger engine displacements, the Porsche’s PDK transmission is widely regarded as the fastest-shifting gearbox in the segment, essential for stop-start city traffic in Dubai or Riyadh. Its localized cooling system is also proven to handle 45°C+ summer peaks more reliably than many boutique European rivals.

Running Costs & Resale

Real-world fuel consumption averages around 8.1 L/100km on the highway, though this will rise in heavy GCC city traffic. Porsche maintains a strong authorized service network across all major GCC cities including Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Riyadh, and Muscat, ensuring parts availability is never an issue. While European sports cars generally depreciate at 12–18% annually, the 718 Cayman S historically holds its value better than segment peers due to its high demand in the local pre-owned market.

Performance & Capability

With a 0–100 km/h time of 4.6 seconds and a top speed of 285 km/h, the 718 Cayman S offers serious performance that is easily accessible on the road. The mid-engine layout provides exceptional stability during high-speed highway cruising and sharp turn-in for mountain passes. The 7-speed PDK automatic transmission is optimized for both rapid-fire shifts during spirited driving and smooth gear changes in urban environments.

Comfort & Cabin

The two-seat cockpit is focused entirely on the driver, featuring Porsche's classic high-quality materials and an ergonomic layout. Standard GCC-spec units include powerful air conditioning systems designed to reach cabin temperature quickly even after being parked in direct sunlight. The inclusion of the Porsche Communication Management (PCM) system ensures modern connectivity, while the cabin remains well-insulated from heat and road noise during long cross-border drives.

Safety

This trim comes standard with a comprehensive safety suite including Porsche Stability Management (PSM), high-performance ventilated disc brakes, and an advanced airbag system. For GCC drivers, the standard Xenon headlights provide excellent visibility for night-time desert highway driving, while the car’s rigid construction and integrated side-impact protection offer peace of mind in fast-moving multi-lane traffic.

The bottom line

This GCC-spec 718 Cayman S is the perfect choice for an enthusiast who values mechanical performance and local reliability over low mileage, offering a high-spec Porsche experience at a competitive entry point.
