Summary

This 2019 Honda Pilot EX-L is an ideal choice for large families in the GCC, offering a rare combination of eight-passenger seating and high-tier cabin finishes. With mileage that reflects typical highway-heavy use for its age in this region, it remains a mechanically sound and durable workhorse. The Grey exterior is one of the most practical choices for the local climate, showing less dust and maintaining strong resale appeal. As a GCC-spec model, it benefits from a cooling system and air conditioning unit specifically designed to handle extreme summer heat. For those looking to bridge the gap between a basic commuter and a luxury SUV, this trim provides all the essential modern tech without the premium price tag of the Touring grade.

This Car vs Other 2019 Pilots

With 125,117 km on the odometer, this Pilot has been driven approximately 25,000 km per year, which is the standard average for family SUVs in the UAE and Saudi Arabia. Unlike American-spec imports often found in this price bracket, this GCC-spec unit ensures full compatibility with local authorized service centers and maintains a higher residual value. The Grey finish is a high-demand resale color in the local market, offering better heat reflection and maintenance ease compared to darker tones.

EX-L vs Lower Trims

The EX-L trim is a significant step up from the base LX and mid-range EX, adding a one-touch power moonroof, leather-trimmed upholstery, and a power tailgate that is essential for GCC grocery runs and school drops. It introduces driver-seat memory functions and a 4-way power-adjustable front passenger seat, along with acoustic glass that significantly improves cabin quietness during high-speed highway cruising. You also get integrated second-row sunshades and additional USB charging ports, keeping the whole family connected and shaded from the desert sun.

Pilot vs Segment Rivals

The Honda Pilot leads the Toyota Highlander and Nissan Pathfinder in interior packaging, offering a more usable third row and a larger total passenger volume of 4,330 liters. While rivals often feel cramped in the back, the Pilot’s boxier design ensures adult-sized headroom across all three rows. Its 70-liter fuel tank provides a substantial cruising range, making it a preferred choice for long-distance travel between Emirates.

Running Costs & Resale

Real-world fuel consumption for the 3.5L V6 typically averages 11.3 L/100km combined, which is competitive for a heavy eight-seater in GCC stop-start traffic. Honda’s reputation for reliability in the region is bolstered by a massive service network, including Al-Futtaim in the UAE and Abdullah Hashim in KSA, ensuring parts are always available. This model traditionally holds roughly 55-60% of its value after three to four years, outperforming many American and European competitors in the same segment.

Performance & Capability

The 280 hp V6 engine provides smooth, linear power that makes highway overtaking effortless, even with a full load of eight passengers. Equipped with Intelligent Traction Management, the Pilot can toggle between Snow, Sand, and Mud modes, providing the necessary electronics to handle soft-sand weekend excursions or gravel tracks. With a ground clearance of 185 mm, it easily clears common speed humps and urban obstacles found across GCC cities.

Comfort & Cabin

The cabin is centered around family logistics, featuring a tri-zone automatic climate control system with dedicated rear vents that can chill the interior quickly even in 45°C weather. The one-touch second-row seats allow children to access the rear bench with the press of a single button, a feature highly valued by parents. The 8-inch Display Audio system includes full Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration, ensuring seamless navigation and media control for long road trips.

Safety

This trim comes standard with the Honda Sensing suite, which includes Adaptive Cruise Control and Lane Keeping Assist, both of which are invaluable for reducing driver fatigue on long desert highways. The safety package also features a Multi-Angle Rearview Camera and Blind Spot Information System with Cross Traffic Monitor to help navigate tight parking spaces in malls. With six standard airbags and the ACE body structure, it offers top-tier occupant protection that rivals often relegate to their most expensive trims.

The bottom line

This GCC-spec Pilot EX-L is the perfect match for a growing family needing reliability and space without sacrificing modern comforts like leather and a sunroof. It stands as a low-risk, high-utility investment in one of the region's most trusted automotive brands.
