Mercedes Benz G63 AMG STANDARD

Highlights

• 0–100 km/h in 4.5 seconds
• 585 hp from a handcrafted 4.0L V8 biturbo
• Three 100% locking differentials standard

Summary

This GCC-spec G63 AMG represents the first year of the landmark 2019 redesign, offering a vastly more refined interior and improved suspension over its predecessor. The Grey exterior is a highly sought-after, resilient choice for the region, ensuring better resale value than more niche colors. While the mileage reflects active use typical for a GCC highway commuter, it remains a mechanically superior choice compared to American-spec imports that often lack the local cooling and warranty compatibility. As the most iconic performance SUV in the Middle East, this model holds its value exceptionally well due to high demand and its status as a permanent cultural icon. For a buyer seeking the ultimate blend of luxury, desert capability, and presence, this specific generation is the definitive benchmark.

This Car vs Other 2019 G63 AMGs

At 135,000 km, this vehicle has been driven approximately 22,500 km per year, which aligns perfectly with the GCC average for luxury commuters. Unlike European or American imports, this GCC-spec example features the heavy-duty cooling systems required to maintain the handcrafted V8's performance during summer heat. The Grey exterior finish is a premier choice in the UAE market, significantly boosting long-term resale potential compared to bolder, less traditional tones.

STANDARD vs Lower Trims

The AMG G63 sits at the top of the G-Class hierarchy, adding the handcrafted biturbo V8 and the AMG Speedshift 9-speed transmission over the standard G500. This trim includes the essential triple-locking differentials as standard, alongside the Burmester® Surround Sound System and the dual 12.3-inch widescreen cockpit. Crucially for the GCC, the AMG trim features optimized adaptive suspension, providing a significantly more composed ride on the highway than lower-spec models.

G63 AMG vs Segment Rivals

While rivals like the Lamborghini Urus focus on track-like agility, the G63 remains the only performance SUV in the segment with a body-on-frame construction and three locking differentials for genuine desert capability. It offers superior headroom and a more commanding driving position than the Range Rover SVR, making it the preferred choice for long-distance highway cruises between emirates. The G63 also historically enjoys the strongest residual value of any vehicle in the high-performance SUV class in the GCC.

Running Costs & Resale

Real-world fuel consumption averages around 13.2 L/100km on the highway, though GCC stop-start traffic can see figures rise to 19.5 L/100km. Service intervals are typically every 15,000 km, supported by the extensive Mercedes-Benz authorized network across the UAE, Saudi Arabia, and Kuwait. The G63 is famous for its value retention, typically depreciating at a much slower rate than its European rivals, often retaining over 65% of its value after three years in the local market.

Performance & Capability

The 4.0L V8 biturbo produces 850 Nm of torque, enabling a 0–100 km/h sprint of just 4.5 seconds and a limited top speed of 220 km/h. Its 4MATIC all-wheel-drive system is rear-biased (40:60), providing sharper handling on paved roads while the 2.93 reduction gear allows for extreme climbing in the dunes. With 241 mm of ground clearance and five on-road and three off-road modes (Sand, Trail, Rock), it is as capable in the Liwa desert as it is on Sheikh Zayed Road.

Comfort & Cabin

The five-seat cabin is a total departure from the previous generation, featuring a 100 mm increase in rear legroom and a standard 64-color ambient lighting system. Three-zone climate control is standard, providing independent cooling for rear passengers, which is vital during the peak GCC summer months. The interior is insulated with acoustic glass to ensure the cabin remains quiet even at high highway speeds, while the twin 12.3-inch displays provide a modern, high-tech interface for navigation and media.

Safety

This G63 comes standard with a full suite of safety systems, including Active Distance Assist DISTRONIC for long desert drives and Blind Spot Assist for multi-lane highway traffic. The redesign introduced a significantly stronger high-strength steel frame and eight airbags to protect all occupants. Standard Pre-Safe systems and Active Lane Keeping Assist provide an extra layer of security, making it one of the safest high-performance vehicles on the road today.

The bottom line

This GCC-spec 2019 G63 AMG is the ideal choice for a buyer who wants a well-maintained, iconic SUV that perfectly balances daily highway comfort with legendary desert capability and market-leading resale value.
