Summary

This 2020 Mitsubishi Pajero GLS HIGHLINE represents the final evolution of a legendary off-road icon, making it an exceptionally reliable choice for GCC families. With its white exterior—the most sought-after color for resale in the region—this vehicle is perfectly suited for both city commuting and desert adventures. The GLS HIGHLINE trim provides significant interior upgrades that elevate it above standard workhorse SUVs. Given the robust 3.0L V6 engine and GCC specifications, this car offers peace of mind through a massive support network of parts and service centers across the UAE and neighboring countries. It strikes a rare balance between physical durability and modern comfort features, standing out as a practical alternative to more expensive luxury SUVs. For a buyer in the GCC, the most important consideration here is the model’s unmatched reputation for longevity in extreme heat and dusty environments, ensuring it remains a dependable asset for years to come.

This Car vs Other 2020 Pajeros

When looking at the 2020 market, this specific Pajero sits exactly where a seasoned buyer would want it to be. With a mileage of 134,294 km, it reflects typical GCC highway usage where owners frequently travel between emirates like Dubai and Abu Dhabi or take long weekend trips to the Northern Emirates. While the mileage is consistent with regional averages of approximately 25,000 km per year, this vehicle benefits from being a GCC-spec model, which means its cooling and filtration systems were built specifically for our local climate. The white exterior is a major advantage here; it reflects the intense summer sun more effectively than darker shades and traditionally commands the highest resale value in the local used market. Buyers will find that this 2020 model retains the classic mechanical simplicity that makes later-production Pajeros more desirable than newer, more complex rivals that may struggle with long-term maintenance in the desert heat.

GLS HIGHLINE vs Lower Trims

Choosing the GLS HIGHLINE over base models significantly changes the daily driving experience, moving the car from a basic utility vehicle to a well-appointed family SUV. This trim adds essential luxury touches such as premium leather upholstery and a power-adjustable driver’s seat, which are vital for comfort on long hauls across the GCC. While lower trims often stick to basic audio setups, the HIGHLINE often features the Rockford Fosgate premium sound system, providing an immersive experience that masks road noise on the highway. Additionally, the inclusion of a sunroof and wood-grain interior accents provides a more upscale atmosphere that passengers will appreciate. From a functional standpoint, the HIGHLINE often includes enhanced chrome aesthetics and high-intensity discharge headlamps, ensuring better visibility during night drives through unlit desert roads. These premium features are highly valued by secondary buyers, meaning you are investing in a trim level that will be much easier to sell when the time comes.

Pajero vs Segment Rivals

The Pajero competes directly with the Toyota Prado and the Nissan Pathfinder, yet it carves out a unique niche by offering a more rugged, mechanical feel that purists prefer. Unlike the Pathfinder which has moved toward a softer crossover platform, the Pajero retains its heavy-duty character, making it much more capable for enthusiasts who actually plan to visit the Liwa or Big Red dunes. While the Prado is known for holding its value, the Pajero offers a similar level of reliability and 4x4 capability at a more accessible price point, providing better value for money in terms of features per dirham. Its massive fuel tank is a standout in the segment, allowing for extended range on long cross-border drives to Oman or Saudi Arabia without constant refueling stops. The cabin layout also feels more vertical and airy than many modern competitors, giving the driver a commanding view of the road that is highly prioritized by SUV buyers in the UAE.

Running Costs & Resale

Ownership costs for a Pajero in the GCC are among the lowest in the large SUV segment due to the incredible availability of both genuine and high-quality aftermarket parts. The 3.0L V6 is a tried-and-tested engine that runs efficiently on standard fuel grades available at all local petrol stations, with real-world consumption averaging around 13L per 100km in mixed city and highway conditions. Service intervals are typically every 5,000 to 10,000 km, and because almost every mechanic in the region is familiar with this powertrain, labor costs remain very competitive. Mitsubishi’s authorized service network is one of the most extensive in the Middle East, with major hubs in every GCC capital, ensuring support even on international road trips. Historically, the Pajero has one of the slowest depreciation rates in the market, often losing only 8-10% of its value annually, which is significantly better than European competitors. You can expect this car to retain a high percentage of its purchase price even after several more years of use.

Performance & Capability

The heart of this vehicle is its Super Select 4WD-II system, which is widely considered one of the most versatile drivetrains ever put into a production SUV. This system allows you to shift between 2WD for fuel-efficient highway cruising and 4WD for high-speed stability on rain-slicked roads or gravel tracks. When the pavement ends, the 4-Low range and locking rear differential provide the genuine mechanical grit needed to crawl through soft sand or rocky wadis. With a respectable ground clearance of approximately 235 mm, you won't have to worry about scraping the undercarriage on uneven terrain or high speed bumps in the city. The 3.0L V6 engine provides steady, linear power that is perfect for overtaking on the E11 highway or maintaining momentum in the dunes. While it isn't a sprinting machine, its towing capacity is more than sufficient for pulling jet skis or a small trailer for camping trips. The suspension is tuned specifically for the GCC, offering a robust ride that handles the weight of seven passengers without feeling wallowy or unstable.

Comfort & Cabin

Inside, the Pajero is designed to combat the harsh Middle Eastern climate with one of the most powerful air conditioning systems in the industry. It features dedicated rear cooling vents for all three rows, ensuring that even passengers in the very back stay comfortable when outside temperatures exceed 45 degrees Celsius. The seven-seat configuration is highly flexible; the third row can be folded flat into the floor to create a massive cargo area for grocery runs or camping gear, or it can be removed entirely for extra hidden storage. High-quality materials have been used throughout the HIGHLINE cabin to withstand the intense UV rays common in the region, preventing the dashboard cracking often seen in less durable imports. Sound insulation is excellent for a vehicle of this size, making it a quiet sanctuary for family conversations during long drives between cities. The elevated seating position provides excellent all-around visibility, making the car surprisingly easy to park in tight mall parking structures despite its footprint.

Safety

Safety in the GLS HIGHLINE is comprehensive, featuring a suite of active and passive systems designed to protect all seven occupants. It comes standard with multi-stage SRS airbags and an Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) with Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD), which is essential for maintaining control during emergency stops on sandy road surfaces. The Active Stability and Traction Control (ASTC) system is particularly useful in the GCC, as it constantly monitors grip levels to prevent skidding during sudden maneuvers or on loose gravel. For family buyers, the ISOFIX child seat anchors and child-protection rear door locks provide necessary security for younger passengers. This trim also includes rear parking sensors and a rearview camera, which are crucial for safely navigating a vehicle of this size in busy urban environments. The Pajero’s RISE (Reinforced Impact Safety Evolution) body construction is engineered to dissipate energy in the event of a collision, providing a solid safety cage that has been proven over decades of real-world use.

The bottom line

This Pajero is the perfect match for a family man or an weekend adventurer looking for a bulletproof, GCC-spec SUV that holds its value better than almost anything else on the road. It provides the ideal balance of HIGHLINE luxury and legendary mechanical endurance, making it a smart, safe, and stress-free investment for life in the Emirates.
