Summary

This 2021 BAIC BJ40 PLUS Premium is a standout choice for those seeking a rugged, mechanical off-roader with significantly lower-than-average mileage for its five-year age in the GCC. With only 24,000 km, it has been driven roughly half the typical 20,000–25,000 km annual average for the region, preserving its mechanical longevity. The white exterior is the most preferred color in the UAE and Saudi markets, ensuring the highest possible resale strength and heat reflection. While modern rivals rely on complex electronics, the BJ40 offers a pure, sturdy driving experience perfect for weekend desert explorations. For a GCC buyer, this represents a low-risk entry into the 4x4 lifestyle with a vehicle that is essentially just run-in.

This Car vs Other 2021 BJ40 PLUSs

With only 24,000 km on the odometer, this vehicle sits well below the 100,000 km typically expected of a five-year-old SUV in the GCC. The white paint is a strategic advantage, as it is consistently the easiest color to resell and the most practical for maintaining a cool cabin during extreme summer peaks. This low-mileage example offers a much fresher interior and tighter mechanical feel than the high-use units commonly found in the regional used market.

PREMIUM vs Lower Trims

The Premium trim upgrades the ownership experience with leather-trimmed seats and a high-resolution 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster that replaces the basic dials found on entry-level models. It also includes heated front seats and a power-adjustable driver's seat, which add a layer of refinement to its rugged character. GCC buyers will particularly appreciate the upgraded climate control interface and the 10-inch infotainment screen that supports modern smartphone connectivity.

BJ40 PLUS vs Segment Rivals

The BJ40 PLUS is frequently cross-shopped with the Jeep Wrangler and the Tank 300, but it leads with a more accessible entry point for genuine body-on-frame capability. It offers a larger 75-litre fuel tank than many compact crossovers, providing the range needed for long hauls between cities like Dubai and Muscat. Its mechanical approach to 4WD is often preferred by enthusiasts who find the electronic systems in rivals more difficult to maintain in remote desert areas.

Running Costs & Resale

Real-world fuel consumption for the 2.3T engine averages around 10–11 L/100km, which is efficient for a heavy-duty frame SUV in GCC highway conditions. Authorized service centers are well-established in the UAE and Saudi Arabia, with parts availability benefiting from the model's shared heritage with legacy turbocharged powertrains. While Chinese off-roaders generally depreciate faster than Japanese icons, this specific car's extremely low mileage helps it retain a significantly higher value floor than high-km equivalents.

Performance & Capability

The 2.3L turbocharged engine delivers a robust 250 horsepower and 350 Nm of torque, providing plenty of muscle for overtaking on the E11 or climbing sandy inclines. Its 210 mm ground clearance and 37-degree approach angle allow it to navigate terrain that would stop most road-biased crossovers. The selectable 4WD system and ladder-frame chassis are designed specifically for durability under the mechanical stress of sand driving and rough rocky trails.

Comfort & Cabin

The 5-seat cabin is designed for both utility and long-distance comfort, featuring a removable roof for open-air driving during the cooler winter months. The air conditioning system is engineered for the high ambient temperatures of the Middle East, with dedicated rear vents ensuring the whole family stays cool. High-quality soft-touch materials and acoustic glass help isolate passengers from the noise of GCC highway traffic, making it a viable daily commuter.

Safety

This trim features a comprehensive safety suite including Electronic Stability Program (ESP) and Traction Control, which are vital for maintaining composure on loose sand and gravel. It is equipped with front airbags, a rearview camera with parking sensors, and Hill Start Assist to prevent rolling on steep dunes. The sturdy separate-frame construction provides a rigid safety cell that offers peace of mind during both urban school runs and remote overland adventures.

The bottom line

This is the ideal opportunity for a GCC buyer looking for a near-new off-road experience at a pre-owned price point. Its exceptionally low mileage and market-preferred color make it one of the most sensible BJ40 listings currently available in the region.
