Highlights

• 0–100 km/h in 3.8 seconds
• 625 hp from a 4.4-litre twin-turbo V8
• 650 litres boot space with all seats upright

Summary

This GCC-spec 2021 model represents a high-water mark for the performance SUV segment, offering a level of track-ready engineering that few rivals can match. With mileage significantly below the GCC annual average for its age, it offers a rare opportunity to acquire a Competition trim in excellent mechanical standing. The Green exterior is a standout choice that differentiates it from the typical monochrome palette of the region, yet it maintains strong appeal for collectors and enthusiasts. For the GCC driver, this is a vehicle that balances daily usability with the ability to dominate the highway between emirates. It remains the definitive choice for those who need family-sized utility without sacrificing supercar-level acceleration.

This Car vs Other 2021 X5 Ms

With just under 44,000 km, this vehicle has been driven roughly 14,000 km per year, which is significantly lower than the typical 20,000–25,000 km seen in the UAE market. This lower usage means less wear on the specialized M-compound braking system and adaptive suspension components compared to higher-mileage examples. The unique Green finish is a desirable enthusiast color that typically commands a premium at resale over standard white or black units.

COMPETITION vs Lower Trims

The Competition trim elevates the V8 output by 25 hp and adds a specialized M Sport exhaust system that provides a much more visceral soundtrack. Inside, you get exclusive M-branded seatbelts and full Merino leather upholstery, alongside a staggered 21-inch front and 22-inch rear wheel setup that is not found on the standard X5 M. This trim also includes a dedicated Track mode, which simplifies the digital cockpit and disables driver aids for focused performance.

X5 M vs Segment Rivals

When compared to the Porsche Cayenne Turbo or the Mercedes-AMG GLE 63 S, this model leads with a more aggressive, driver-focused chassis and the highly customizable M xDrive all-wheel-drive system. It offers a larger standard boot capacity than the Cayenne, making it a more practical choice for weekend road trips across the GCC. Additionally, BMW's Head-Up Display remains one of the largest and most information-dense in the segment, a major advantage on fast-moving highways.

Running Costs & Resale

Real-world fuel consumption averages roughly 13.1 L/100km on combined cycles, though city driving in heavy GCC traffic will see this figure rise significantly. As a GCC-spec vehicle, it benefits from a comprehensive authorized service network across the UAE, Saudi Arabia, and Oman, ensuring parts availability and qualified technicians are never far away. Typical depreciation for this trim in the GCC market is approximately 15% annually, but its low mileage and unique color help it retain value better than the segment average.

Performance & Capability

The 3.8-second sprint to 100 km/h is facilitated by a sophisticated Launch Control system and an active M differential that manages power between the rear wheels with surgical precision. Despite its on-road focus, a 213 mm ground clearance allows it to handle gravel access roads and speed breakers with total confidence. The M xDrive system is rear-biased for a traditional sports car feel but provides immediate traction when navigating the occasional rain shower or sandy patches on regional highways.

Comfort & Cabin

The cabin is a masterclass in ergonomics, featuring M-specific multifunction seats that include heating and ventilation—essential for maintaining comfort during peak GCC summers. Rear passengers enjoy dedicated climate zones and ample legroom, while the 40:20:40 split-folding rear seats allow the cargo area to expand to a massive 1,870 litres. Acoustic glazing and high-grade insulation keep the interior remarkably quiet, even when the twin-turbo V8 is working hard.

Safety

Standard safety equipment includes a comprehensive ADAS suite with Lane Departure Warning, Blind Spot Monitoring, and Forward Collision Mitigation, which are particularly effective for the high-speed multi-lane environments of the region. The 360-degree surround-view camera system makes maneuvering this large SUV into tight mall parking spaces effortless. Furthermore, the M-specific braking system provides massive stopping power, a critical safety layer for a vehicle with this level of performance.

The bottom line

This is the perfect acquisition for the enthusiast who needs a practical family SUV but refuses to compromise on the mechanical pedigree of a genuine M car.
