• 461 litres of boot space behind the third row
• Seven seats with all-wheel drive

Summary

This 2021 Ford Explorer presents a compelling case for GCC families, offering a low-mileage profile of just 62,000 km over five years of road use. The Grey exterior is a highly practical choice for the region, balancing professional aesthetics with excellent resistance to visible desert dust and heat-induced fading. As a GCC-spec model, it features the reinforced cooling systems essential for maintaining peak performance during peak summer temperatures. In a segment often dominated by smaller four-cylinder turbos, the proven 3.5-litre V6 provides the effortless torque needed for full-capacity highway cruising. This listing is a standout for those seeking a modern, reliable seven-seater that has bypassed the steepest part of the depreciation curve.

This Car vs Other 2021 Explorers

With only 62,000 km on the odometer, this Explorer has averaged approximately 12,400 km per year, which is significantly lower than the GCC typical annual average of 20,000–25,000 km. This lower usage suggests less wear on the suspension and transmission, major benefits for long-term reliability. The Grey metallic finish is one of the top-performing resale colors in the UAE and Saudi markets, ensuring the car remains easy to trade or sell in the future.

BASE vs Lower Trims

The Base trim provides a focused, high-value entry into the Explorer range, including the essential 8-inch SYNC 3 touchscreen with full Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration. Unlike more basic fleet-oriented SUVs, this trim still includes Ford Co-Pilot360 technology as standard, providing critical active safety features like Blind Spot Information System (BLIS) and Lane-Keeping Assist. It maintains the same robust 3.5L V6 powertrain and Intelligent 4WD found in mid-tier trims, focusing on mechanical capability over expensive cosmetic extras.

Explorer vs Segment Rivals

The Explorer distinguishes itself from the Toyota Highlander and Honda Pilot with its rear-wheel-drive based chassis architecture, which provides superior towing stability and a more composed highway feel at speed. Its 461-litre boot capacity with all three rows upright leads many in the class, allowing for genuine grocery or luggage space even with a full seven-passenger load. Furthermore, the localized GCC-spec cooling system is widely regarded as one of the most effective for maintaining cabin comfort in 45°C+ heat.

Running Costs & Resale

The 3.5L V6 engine is engineered for 91-octane petrol, making it cost-effective at the pump across the GCC. Owners can expect a predictable depreciation rate of approximately 12-15% annually, which is standard for American SUVs in the region. Service intervals are typically every 10,000 km, and with one of the most extensive authorized dealer networks in the UAE (Al Tayer) and Saudi Arabia (Al Jazirah), parts availability is never a concern even in smaller cities.

Performance & Capability

The 300 hp V6 engine provides smooth, linear acceleration that is particularly useful for overtaking on fast-moving highways like E11 or E311. Equipped with a Terrain Management System, the Four-Wheel Drive system features selectable modes for Slippery, Trail, and Deep Snow/Sand, allowing for confident weekend excursions to light desert tracks or gravel wadis. With a braked towing capacity of up to 2,268 kg when properly equipped, it is highly capable for hauling jet skis or small campers.

Comfort & Cabin

The cabin is designed for the GCC climate, featuring a high-output air conditioning system with dedicated rear-seat vents and controls to ensure the third row stays cool. The 2-3-2 seating configuration offers generous legroom in the first two rows, while the second-row seats feature an easy-entry mechanism for quick access to the rear. High-quality acoustic glass helps isolate the interior from road noise and desert wind, providing a quiet sanctuary for long cross-border drives.

Safety

Safety is a core strength, with the standard Ford Co-Pilot360 suite offering Pre-Collision Assist with Automatic Emergency Braking and Pedestrian Detection. For GCC highway driving, the Blind Spot Information System with Cross-Traffic Alert is indispensable for managing multi-lane traffic. The vehicle is also equipped with seven airbags and electronic stability control with Roll Stability Control (RSC) to help maintain command during sudden maneuvers on sandy or uneven surfaces.

The bottom line

This 2021 Explorer is the ideal choice for a family buyer who prioritizes low mileage and mechanical reliability over high-trim leather. It offers a nearly-new GCC-spec ownership experience at a significantly more accessible price point than a new model.
