Summary

This 2021 Honda City LX is a quintessential compact commuter, offering a rare balance of modern features and exceptional running costs. With 87,000 km, its mileage is exactly aligned with typical GCC highway use, ensuring the powertrain is well-settled for a long second life. The grey exterior is a neutral, high-demand choice in the UAE market, aiding in future resale stability. Compared to its peers, this fifth-generation City stands out with class-leading cargo capacity and a refined interior that punches above its weight. For any buyer in the region, the combination of Honda’s legendary reliability and specialized GCC cooling makes this a worry-free daily driver.

This Car vs Other 2021 Honda Citys

At 87,000 km, this vehicle sits at the average mileage mark for the GCC, where 20,000–25,000 km per year is the standard due to long-distance highway commutes. The grey metallic finish is one of the most practical colors for the local climate, as it hides dust effectively and maintains strong demand in the secondary market. Being a GCC-spec model, it features the heavy-duty cooling systems required to maintain performance during extreme summer peaks.

LX vs Lower Trims

The LX trim is a significant step up from the base DX, introducing features that are essential for modern GCC driving comfort. It adds an 8-inch touchscreen display with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, along with a multi-angle rearview camera and smart entry with push-button start. Crucially, the LX also upgrades to automatic air conditioning and includes dedicated rear AC vents, which are often missing in entry-level segments but vital for passenger comfort in this region.

City vs Segment Rivals

The Honda City leads its primary rivals, the Toyota Yaris and Nissan Sunny, in overall interior refinement and cargo practicality with its 519-litre boot. While competitors offer similar fuel economy, the City provides a more sophisticated DOHC i-VTEC engine that offers smoother power delivery on fast-moving UAE highways. Its wheelbase provides superior rear legroom, often comparable to sedans in the next class up.

Running Costs & Resale

Running costs are among the lowest in the segment, with a manufacturer-claimed efficiency of 21.1 km/L and real-world GCC mixed driving averaging between 18–20 km/L. The 40-litre fuel tank allows for a potential range of over 700 km, reducing frequent stops during inter-emirate trips. Honda maintains one of the strongest resale values in the GCC, typically depreciating only 8-10% annually, supported by an extensive authorized service network spanning the UAE, Saudi Arabia, and Oman.

Performance & Capability

The 1.5-litre i-VTEC engine produces 118 horsepower, which is highly competitive for the compact sedan class and provides confident overtaking ability on highways like the E11. The CVT transmission is tuned for efficiency and smooth city crawling, making it ideal for the stop-start traffic of Dubai or Riyadh. Despite its compact footprint, the chassis feels stable at the 120 km/h cruising speeds common across the region.

Comfort & Cabin

The cabin is designed with the GCC summer in mind, featuring a high-output air conditioning system and fabric seats that remain cooler than leather in direct sunlight. The 8-inch infotainment system serves as a central hub for navigation and media, while the Z-shaped LED taillights add a premium aesthetic to the exterior. Acoustic insulation has been improved in this generation to minimize road noise during long highway stints.

Safety

Safety is prioritized with Honda’s Advanced Compatibility Engineering (ACE) body structure and a suite of standard active systems. This LX trim includes Vehicle Stability Assist (VSA), Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD), and a Deflation Warning System for the tires. Dual front airbags are standard, providing essential protection, while the multi-angle rearview camera makes maneuvering into tight urban parking spots safe and effortless.

The bottom line

Perfect for the budget-conscious professional or small family, this GCC-spec City LX offers modern tech and class-leading space with the best-in-class fuel economy for the region.
