Summary

This 2021 Santa Fe in the Premium Plus trim represents the peak of Hyundai's midsize SUV offering, combining a powerful 3.5L V6 engine with a suite of high-end features typically reserved for luxury segments. With just over 100,000 km, the mileage is perfectly in line with average GCC usage, ensuring the vehicle has been regularly maintained for regional highway driving. The brown exterior is a sophisticated, high-resale choice in the local market, standing out from the usual palette while remaining highly desirable for used buyers. It bridges the gap between a daily family hauler and a long-distance cruiser, offering a refined monocoque chassis that prioritizes ride comfort on paved roads. For a GCC buyer, the combination of a large-displacement naturally aspirated engine and robust cooling makes this a reliable choice for extreme summer temperatures.

This Car vs Other 2021 Santa Fes

At approximately 101,500 km, this Santa Fe sits right at the 25,000 km per year average typical for UAE and GCC drivers. Unlike higher-mileage examples often found in the market, this unit maintains a healthy balance between mechanical usage and age. The brown metallic finish is a strategic buying advantage in the region, offering better heat reflection than black while holding a stronger resale premium than less common bright colors.

PREMIUM PLUS vs Lower Trims

The Premium Plus trim is a significant leap over the Smart and Comfort variants, introducing a full 360° Surround View Monitor and a 12-speaker Bose premium audio system. Crucially for the GCC climate, it adds ventilated front seats and Nappa leather upholstery, providing a level of cabin cooling and material quality that lower trims lack. You also benefit from the larger 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and a head-up display for safer highway navigation.

Santa Fe vs Segment Rivals

When compared to the Toyota Highlander or Kia Sorento, the Santa Fe leads with its interior ergonomics and the value-for-money tech offered in this top trim. Its 3.5L V6 provides a smoother, more linear power delivery for highway overtaking than the smaller turbocharged units found in some rivals. The HTRAC Four Wheel Drive system also offers more sophisticated terrain modes for sand and gravel surfaces compared to more basic AWD systems in the class.

Running Costs & Resale

Fuel consumption for the 3.5L V6 averages roughly 10.5 L/100km on the highway, making it an efficient long-distance cruiser, though figures will rise in stop-start city traffic typical of Dubai or Riyadh. As a GCC-spec vehicle, it benefits from the most extensive authorized service network in the region, with parts readily available in every major emirate and neighboring country. Resale value remains high, as the 2021 facelift remains the current design language, minimizing the immediate impact of model-year depreciation.

Performance & Capability

The 3.5-liter V6 engine delivers a smooth 200 hp, ensuring effortless acceleration even with five passengers and luggage. The HTRAC Four Wheel Drive system features selectable drive modes, including Sand and Mud, providing genuine confidence for weekend trips to the desert periphery. Its eight-speed automatic transmission is tuned for refinement, offering quiet cruising at 120 km/h while maintaining enough torque for light towing or steep mountain passes in the Northern Emirates.

Comfort & Cabin

The cabin is a standout in this class, featuring dual-zone automatic climate control with dedicated rear vents that are essential for the GCC summer. The five-seat configuration ensures class-leading legroom for second-row passengers and a massive cargo area for family grocery runs or road trips. Sound insulation is excellent, using acoustic glass to keep the cabin quiet and isolated from road noise during long-distance drives across the borders.

Safety

This trim is equipped with the full Hyundai SmartSense suite, featuring Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist and Blind-Spot View Monitor, which displays a live video feed in the digital cluster when you signal. For long highway drives, the Adaptive Cruise Control and Lane Following Assist significantly reduce driver fatigue. The inclusion of a 360° camera and Rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance makes parking this midsize SUV effortless in tight urban spaces.

The bottom line

For the family buyer who wants flagship luxury features and V6 reliability without the premium price tag of a European SUV, this GCC-spec Santa Fe is an outstanding opportunity.
